Once an ex-Confederate enlisted man swore his oath of loyalty to the Union, that was usually it; they were restored to full citizenship, complete with the right to vote (if they met the other legal criteria like property ownership and payment of poll taxes). There was never any “naturalization” process for such people, because the whole point of the war was (from the northern point of view) that they had never ceased to be citizens of the United States.

The Fourteenth Amendment reinforced this; anyone born within any part of the United States, or naturalized according to law, was a citizen, no matter which state he or she did or didn’t live in. The only exceptions the Amendment made were those who specifically had led the rebellion- a group of about fifteen thousand, give or take, high Confederate officers, elected officials, commerce raiders, and the like. Even these, by the end of 1868, were pardoned by President Andrew Johnson and, once their oath of allegiance was on record, restored to full civil and political rights.

You daughters of the confederacy revisionist, lost cause bullshite history isn't believable, first of all most confederate monuments were erected post-1900, I doubt Heroic Union Soldiers gave a damn about honoring anyone associated with the confederacy

If you check out my link you see that although there was no Geneva Convention at that time the confederacy committed many WAR CRIMES to POWs

Based on the treatment of HONORABLE COURAGEOUS UNION SOLDIERS at Camp Anderson in GA, that right there is enough reason to take down every monument and take every confederate name off of every Base

Your claims that Union Soldiers erected monuments honoring confederates is shaky at best

Jefferson Davis wanted to be tried for treason. He was never given the opportunity because the federal authority at the time thought he might be acquitted. They were afraid that according to the law at the time the south indeed had the right to secede.
