I know this isn't exactly SEC or sports related, but I knwo we have a good many folks that visit this board and none of the others who are either current or former members of the Armed Forces and I wanted to share this and say Merry Christmas to everyone who has ever had to spend the holidays stationed away from friends and loved ones.

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
And to see just who in this home did live.

I looked all about, a strange sight did I see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the mantle, just boots filled with sand,
on the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.

With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,
a sober thought came through my mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary,
I found the house of a soldier, once I could see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
curled upon the floor in this one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured a United States soldier.

Was this the hero of whom I just read?
Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?
I realized the families I saw on this night,
owed their lives to these soldiers, who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world the childen would play,
And grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers, like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
The very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more,
My life is my God, my country, my Corps."

The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it, I started to weep.
I kept watch for hours, so silent and still
And we both shivered from the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night
This Guardian of Honor so willing to fight.
The soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure,
whispered, "Carry on, Santa,
It's Christmas Day, All is secure."

One look at my watch and I knew he was right
Merry Christmas, my friend, and to all a Good Night!

I missed Christmas in 2007 because of a deployment. I'm missing this one due to duty and pre-deployment crap.

Uh oh LewDawg looks like we have a new douchebag on the rant.

Super tough guy is going to join the military some day, what branch and MOS are you joining? You going to be a Ninja, Navy SEAL, Marine Reconn?

ETA: I missed Thanksgiving and Christmas because of bootcamp and spent New Years on a ruck march in the snow. I was lucky on my first deployment to get back just in time for the holidays.

Hey Dixie, just like Marines said, what branch and MOS? When is your report date? Are you in DEP?

If it is in fact true that you ARE joining the military, I suspect you won't be arrogant for very much longer.

Actually, for your own personal and mental safety, it doesn't look like you are making a sound career choice.

I'm going to place a wager that you haven't even signed your contract yet, and are "awaiting something that is QP/High Speed".

mostly looking at SEALs but I think Green Berets would be a good fit for me too (if I can learn another language). I want to do scout sniper though.

Sorry y'all, I didn't expect this to turn out quite like the thread has.

But to all who have served, who continue to serve and will serve in the future - thank you and God Bless at this time of year and the rest of the year as well.

So, then it is true. Not only have you NOT signed a contract, you want something High Speed/QP/Secret Squirrel.

I suggest you seek out a SEAL Motivator or a 18X recruiter/Opt 40 recruiter at you local station or find a BTDT and tell them what you WISH to be. I believe they'll give you the required attitude adjustment. Just from your post and the arrogance shown in it to those who are/were in the military, I don't think you are QP material.

What if you get that High Speed MOS and fail? Will you be happy? You need to answer that question first.

Until you've signed on the dotted line, raised your right hand and you are a DEP, keep your mouth shut.
