I would too. Why would you take less if you were Harsin
I’m sure certain things would be made public if he refuses to lower the buyout. Likewise, if the buyout is lowered, Auburn will not let things slide to the media.

That’s the game being played here.

Rule of thumb is that all contracts are negotiable.

They are, but most are written in favor of the coach. The only real reason for reduction of the contract is if there is something embarrassing for the coach. Most of the buyouts have a clause where the coaches next salary reduces the buyout dollar for dollar. Which is actually beneficial for both schools.

The issue wasn't his staff, it was Harsin. He was supposed to knock on doors. Half his staff are from the South and know the recruiting game. He is the one who has dropped the ball with recruits and their coaches.
For all the bravado and tough testosterone talk about hard work, discipline and accountability, he comes across as lackadaisical on the sideline and just flat out lazy on the recruiting side of his job.

He’s not fit for SEC level coaching, best to cut bait Sunday morning and get a jump start on his replacement.

Agree, but he is not lackadaisical Sunday-Monday. He demands work for his players and has gotten rid of the deadwood that Gus brought in and pandered.

Why would he accept a lower buyout to be fired?

At some point/ we all know he is gone…for him, he has to see the opportunity costs with staying…does his brand get destroyed more if he continues to struggle bc of bad coaching decisions? Or is his brand so badly hurt, there won’t be a huge hit by staying until the end?
