These kinds of mission trips are a waste of time, everything will just fall apart once they leave because the locals won't maintain anything they built.

I take it you have never been on a mission trip? This is absolutely not the case and is such a horrible take that I can't even comprehend how someone can think this way.

LSU had a group that went to Africa one summer
