Auburn is not close to being as shitty as the OP's option.
Exactly, the OP's option is more like Vanderbilt winning one NC and then being the Vanderbilt of the 90s for 30-40 years. Would you choose that over being Georgia basically?

Correct, that is more of an accurate comparison.
Although to be fair, UGA has won multiple titles in the past, it's not like we're longing to win that first one. And as I've pointed out in past posts, we're not unique to this situation. LSU, Ohio State, Texas, UF, FSU, etc. all went LONG stretches of time between titles. Longer, in fact, than the stretch UGA is currently in.

Exactly. I don't get why Auburn's name is being thrown around.

No need to get pissy. Apparently one of us is missing the point of the topic, and I don't think it's me.
The op asked if the basement for an extended period is worth one national title. You replied LSU waited 50 years. I think I gave you too much credit and assumed you were taking a silly jab. I didn't realize that in actuality you failed to comprehend the topic.
LSU did wait 45 years for another national title. But LSU was hardly in the basement during those years. They have many bowl wins and several SEC titles in between.

What "power" went the longest ever in between titles or wining their first one?
Anyone know?

I think most people that post on here are under 40 though, so Georgia kind of comes to mind as the poster child for this scenario in our lifetimes.

Because most people, like me, just glanced at the OP and then responded assuming that's what he was getting at. Because that question actually makes sense. Choosing between Vandy plus a NC or UGA isn't a choice at all.

The ol Auburn or Georgia question..
Subtle, and well played

The University of Florida went from starting a football program in 1906 until 1996 before winning its first. 90 years is a pretty long time.

I posted on this a while ago but can't find it. From memory, LSU went from the 50s (I think) to 2003. Auburn went from the 50s to 2010. OSU went from the 60s til 2002. I think Texas went from early 70s to 2005. Florida went from their inception to 1996.

It was only 2 pages..is it that hard to scan 2 pages of posts?

You wouldn't think, but some people may have a "I want a national title and don't GAS what happens the next 30 years" mentality.

You're right. He did fail to understand the topic, but he wasn't the only one. UGA and Auburn are being assumed as targets of a troll by the thread starter, but really those are top flight programs. Like someone else said, this is more about, say Vandy with a national title.

I had no troll intentions with this thread, it was a topic a few guys at work were talking about today. Hell, it's been 74 years since A&M's last NC. I was not talking about any schools in particular. Just curious. I'm talking about win a NC then go into 25 years of 5-7 AT BEST. No bowls, no 6-6 seasons, nothing. Would you take it?
