That was the last time you were any good.

That's been what, thirty years?

One thing UK fans will have to digest is modern CBB is not a time where one program will dominate. The chances of having a dynasty is slim. This isn't football where you recruiting rankings can get you a playoff spot. NIL and the transfer portal spreads the wealth and you have to win on the court in basketball. No one is gifted a title.

This. And I think much like Saban it’s too much for him and has ruined his strategy and competitive advantage

Look at Barnes though. He's older than Cal and he's adapted quite well. Hell, this entire season has been about Rick Barnes fixing something we never thought he'd fix and actually going out and getting a pure scorer.

Cal isn't too old to change but he may be too stubborn. IDK the answer to that. But college basketball is full of grown men these days - COVID, NIL, as well as just the days of young players instantly becoming superstars in the NBA have all played a part in it - and he's still trying to win with boys.

As talented as these players are the fact is men aren't men at 18. The body hasn't reached its peak and the brain has yet to fully become adult.

Thanks. If Cal survives this and can get a few of those guys into their sophomore and junior seasons there's going to be hell to pay. That was a talented team. A trainwreck of a team but a ridiculously talented one.

What's happening is the big dogs are recruiting guys that are bound for the NBA . The mid-majors are keeping guys for 4 years. They get developed, experience and develop a team. I think SDSU had 4 senior starters last year.
Hell, most "major" teams don't have a senior starter at all. The Larry Birds, Patrick Ewings, Christian Laettner, Grant Hill, Shaq, Michael Jordan, Rick Robey, Goose givens, Steve Alford staying 3 or 4 years are gone so the coaches are constantly coaching a new team. This lends to the mid majors being able to compete.
