agreed 100% man - unfortunately there will be fans of both fanbases that will completely disagree with you. but regardless, thats the most objective post i've seen an LSU fan make yet.

Not sure if he is a "gump", but that article is over a month old.
Maybe he had a change of mind once all the other teams started dropping like flies.

I've got no problem with the rematch. It'll be even sweeter the second time LSU beats that arse. My original post was intended to illustrate the fact that the author understands what has always been said about college football's regular season...
Through lots of luck (Stanford, Boise and Ok St all losing games they should have easily won) and begging and pleading on ESPN 24/7...Bama will get their rematch and after it's all said and done, we aren't going to learn any thing more than what we learned on 11/5, and that is this: LSU is the better TEAM this year.
It must be hard knowing that, what many Bama fans have said is their best team ever, isn't good enough to beat a Bayou Bengal team that is made up of many 2 and 3 star recruits.

We say congrats. Then the rant melts down and people call for Miles's head.
Shortly after Saban accepts the North Korea opening and we all watch as Bama offers Bill Belichick 10 million/7 years(not a typo)

A rematch would render Saturday’s Game of the Century as meaningless as a matchup against Kent State. If the outcome didn’t matter in the first place then why were tickets going for more than my car’s worth? Love it or hate it, a rematch would pit the best two teams against each other again, but I don’t need to see the sequel. The original was enough for me.
Doesn't sound like it.

Ace you might be the only LSU fan on this entire forum that would admit that. Thanks for being sane!
I appreciate that. How many Gumps agree it sucks to have to beat a team twice in one season to prove you're #1?

BHP is with you regarding the rematch
And it really sucks to have to beat a team twice. But I would prefer that it was Bama that had to win twice.

Bama has, probably inarguably, the best offensive player in the conference - TR. LSU has, probably inarguably, the best defensive player in the conference (yes, Tyrann Mathieu). There is little question these are the 2 finest defenses in NCAA football in 2011.
Both offenses, when you look at them totally on paper, are fairly middle of the road, but both have shown to be alternatively efficient and explosive - just not against each other. LSU has a significant advantage in just about every area of special teams. In nearly every other area the the teams are #1a and #1b.
My ONLY objection to the matchup is that we beat Bama already at Tuscaloosa (and no, ya'll did not give us the game - we won). But, however it is diagrammed - the rules in place, that everybody knew about, everybody agreed to prior to the season was that if you're #1 you play #2, and it you're #2 you play #1.
If anybody doesn't like those rules now - the time to change it is before next season starts, not now. The changes never really favor us (the rules were tweaked to make human polls 2/3 of the formula to favor the media darlings, specifically USCw, of which LSU is definitely not 1 - everything we get we have to earn, with interest - January 9th will be no exception.)
Leave no doubt!

How are you gonna change the rules though? Its certainly not fair to tell a team that you're eliminated from the national championship picture because you lost to the top team (even if you are the second best team). A playoff is the best way, but there would be lots of rematches in that system.

Logic .... or just another point of view?

I don't think so. Every game is an opportunity to win. Doesn't matter who the other team is.

Agree 100%, and I wouldn't be bitching about having to play LSU again either.

My simple change would be - a team cannot face its conference champion in the BCS-CG. If you are #1 (virtually impossible if you lost to #2, but maybe) but your conference champ is #2 in the BCS - then #2 faces #3. Likewise, if you're #2, but your conference champ is #1, #1 faces #3.
That wouldn't always be a "no rematch" situation, just take out the most egregious element of the current situation.

The BCS has been good to LSU, Tiger nation has no right to complain about this year's outcome.
For me it's the 'misery factor' ... what would make a Gump more miserable, to be left out of the big game, or to lose twice. I'll take the latter.

We're #1 and Bama is #2. January 9th will "leave no doubt" - (unless Bama wins a close one). If LSU wins or Bama wins big, it's probably resolved.
I was about to give you props until that last statement. Its resolved if Bama wins by 1 cause we be taking the trophy to T-town if we do.

I didn't mean to imply the BCS championship would be unresolved - a close Bama win might cloudy up who the better team in 2011 was, that's all.
