I don't get this talk about this team being dregs of recruiting.
Almost all of them are 4 or 5 year experience players. The game experience goes a long way especially versus younger guys even if the younger opponents are more "talented" or were star recruits.
This team also has multiple shooters and ball handlers. Buzz's teams had higher rated recruits but most of his teams struggled to shoot the 3s as well as defend the 3s.
Lastly, because these are blue collar players with experience, they play within the roll given to them and therefore play as a team. I don't know if Bucky will get that with 18-year old 4- and 5-star players next season, if those talent even want to play this style of basketball.
I'm enjoying the product, and glad that they're outperforming all expectations. Everything else is gravy.

I’ll try to elaborate. I mean that he was hired very late and most recruits were already committed. So by “dregs” I mean the last available. That doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t capable.

Good Lord. He's not going to coach the women's team.
Why in the world are you acting like going to UT would be like going to Duke, Kansas, UNC or UK? Barnes has had a nice run and Pearl had some good teams, but the program has never made it past an Elite 8, let alone won a championship.
It's not like A&M has a strong history in the sport, but there is nothing special about UT or Knoxville.

I’m not sure Bucky would work well with five stars. But it is all about shooting percentage. He find shooters and molds them into a team. A&M has more than a half dozen players shooting well, and a deep bench. Reminds me of Nolan’s 40 minutes of hell

Bucky will be scary with a good roster.
I don't necessarily buy into that. A team loaded with a bunch of great players who know they're great- not always good.
No matter what we have next year, THIS year's team is probably going to be the most FUN team to watch in the next how many years.
Because they are underdogs playing unselfish ball and working their tails off.
THIS IS THE TEAM- even if we lose in the first round, just making it to the tourney is story of the year.

Not saying that Tennessee has blue blood history lol. However our basketball history is so much better than the Aggies. We have an arena that seats 10,000 more people than the Aggies, a program with more history, and Knoxville is a million times nicer than College Station.
The Tennessee job is significantly better than the Aggie job. Its not close

My question now is: does this style translate well to post season success? I think it does.
This team would be even better with that C we lost to injury before he could even contribute.
But I wouldn't be surprised if Bucky gets more juniors and seniors and grad transfers next year. Any guy that can shoot the ball from 3 and handle the ball, plus play pressure defense. So... Blue Collar, not necessarily Blue Chip.

I agree. He’s a coach that fits blue collar A&M so well it is amazing. Shooting percentage is everything. Shooting 94% FT’s the last three games.
I think making the Tournament is an achievement for his first year. He’s looking at better than that.

Thank you. I was looking for the description and that is it exactly! Nolan had teams that would completely smother the competition.

No one wants to coach at tenner.

I live in TN.
The Vols fans are beyond arrogant.
Scholastically and financially, you are not on A&Ms level.
You history is built around Pat Summit and a few years with Bruce Pearl.

From what I saw, Georgia forgot to show up.

Yeah. That’s what happens anytime A&M wins anything. The other team didn’t try.

I don't think anyone that isn't a complete UT homer thinks this. Again, I acknowledge that A&M has been historically bad at basketball and has only recently shown signs of life. But we are talking about two programs with the names of a former Women's coach on their respective courts.

At least with A&M we are talking about a school that could pay our basketball coach as much as our football coach if we wanted to. Or more.

Not a single scholarship player from last year is on this year‘s team correct?
Everyone had to be brought in from the portal or brought up from a non-scholarship practice squad spot
This is extremely impressive

Correct. And Bucky was the last D1 coach to be hired last year because of Buzz leaving as late as he did. Which means he had very little time and portal pool to choose from when he got this team together. This is one of the best stories with the hodgepodge roster he assembled
Also Buzz is 1-8 in the BIG and currently dead last.
