In all honesty, I actually think it's a good hire and only time will tell if it works out or not. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion either way. But having lived in Louisiana going back to Dinardo's first days at LSU and having all my in-laws be Tigah alumn/fans, I know how a large portion of the fanbase have an extremely inflated view of the program.
I also know that the majority of Tiger fans were ready to burn it to the ground when Kelly's name was just being rumored so it's really fun to watch some of those same folks come on here and now try to convince THEMSELVES how good of a hire it was.

Your first mistake is judging the LSU fanbase by the nimwads that post on this site, and even that wasn’t a “majority.” The actual majority are thrilled to have hired the winningest coach in Notre Dame history and why shouldn’t we be. Kelly should absolutely kill it with LSU’s athletes and resources
