I think what's happening is pointing to super-conferences of the Top 64, or four conferences of 16 teams.
As a precursor to increasing the size of the CFP, this will allow them to equalize the schedules, IMO, and have divisional champions maybe with wildcards, like the NFL.
(Those outside of the Top 64 could have their own deal, or still play somewhere in the bowl system.)

Agreed we should kick out some teams who haven't won national championships in one of the three major sports in the 21st century. We don't need these bad teams dragging our conference down

Nah you'll have four 16 team super conferences and top two from each conference will go on to make an 8 team playoff.
