This one is on the coaches and their agents. They’re tired of getting fired so quickly and want an expanded playoff so they can keep their jobs, and the networks are pumped because they get to make more money off more games.

But like most executives, their long term vision is impaired by short term bumps in profits. The regular season ratings will suffer, attendance will suffer, and the sport will completely fall from the top level of passion. It’s over.

The ONE good thing to come out of this is Sankey by going along with this was able to extract from the big 10 they also must move to a 9 game conference schedule and all p4 conference teams must play against at least 10 p4 teams a year. This means every team must schedule at least one OOC p4 team every year so you won’t be able to do what 3/4 of the big 10 does anymore especially Cig and schedule the 4 worst schools you can find OOC.

And not everyone can schedule a Rutgers, or a Maryland, some teams are going to actually have to schedule good quality teams OOC.

Did you need to expand the playoffs to the universally hated 24 teams to get this to happen? No and Sankey sucks and is a loser coward bitch subservient to ESPN. But, I still think it is a good thing.

Everything else about this fricking sucks arse

I thought the number was either 6 or 8... once it went beyond that what does it matter.... at least it's two teams playing to move on.

Effectively what they have done is rebranded bowl games no one watched or cared about into “playoff games” and now the very few people you can find defending this or cheering it on think it’s suddenly going to become EPIC with Cinderella’s makes DEEP RUNS which will never happen.

You can easily discern people who are casual fans who have a casual understanding of CFB by if they support this or not. It’s a easy and great litmus test.

The only realistic path for Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, and LSU to reach the playoffs is through expansion, so I’m sure their fan bases are absolutely thrilled about the prospect.

Yup which just goes to show you how fricking dumb the people with their hands on the wheel behind this actually are and don’t have the slightest understanding of the thing they’re tinkering with based on how they have structured this whole mess.

So 4 conference champions still get auto bids. 19 are at large and the G6 is still promised a spot even if they can’t crack the top 24 teams for some reason

Answer me this; when you have killed conference championship games how do you even determine a conference winner in unbalanced conferences with teams that don’t all play each other yearly?

The big 10 and SEC with gobble up whatever are the most valuable properties left to each get to 20 teams.

Then theyll eventually find a way to cut out everyone else and 40 teams will be your top level of CFB playing in divisions of 5 in a AFC NFC style structure.

If it ends up going that way, they'll have to boot some teams and replace them. At the very least, Purdue, Rutgers, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and probably Mississippi State would probably have no place in the two superconferences. Figure Notre Dame and Miami would replace two of them, I suppose.

Great question here, feel like it could turn in to a subjective beauty contest with more weight put on strength of schedule, even more subjective stuff like ‘quality of wins,’ etc. It’s all so fricking stupid.
