Florida has had the hardest schedule this year by far (SOS is #1, RPI is # 2). And it’s definitely been a up and down season for them. Rothrock was out for a while with an injury that hurt us, and when she came back she still isn’t the same. It’s probably all mental too. I see flashes of what she use to be. In order for Florida to win it all she’s going to find a second gear.

They have a fairly easy path to the championship game.

Well the #1 seed is supposed to have the easier path, but any team that OU has to play has the ability to beat them. No knock on OU, as they are a worthy champ, but this conference is deep as hell.

It seems we say this every year, and every year the conference fails to live up to the hype.
Hopefully this year is different, but I'm not holding my breath.

Let the games begin!

The conference IS deep. And this year with have 3-peat OK in the conference, so there's that.

League is deep and the polls all reflect that with different #1's, 2's, and 3's this week...

ESPN/USA Softball: #1 aTm, #2 OU, #3 Tennessee
D1 Softball: #1 aTm, #2 Arkansas, #3 OU
Softball America: #1 Arkansas, #2 aTm
USA Today: #1 aTm, #2 OU, #3 Texas

A deep conference means the teams in the lower half are better than the teams in the lower half of the other conferences. Having one or two teams dominate and win championships doesn't make a deep conference.

Bama finished 10th in the conference and took 2/3 from the conference champ Oklahoma. That is a deep conference. 14 out of 15 teams will make the NCAA tournament, that is a deep conference.

We were already the deepest conference, and we added 2 teams that are at the top of the conference this season. It isn't particularly close as to which conference is the deepest anymore. You can just listen to the top softball commentators who are from the former Pac 12, as they constantly talk about how strong the SEC is.

And there are a few teams that can win the national championship that are not in the SEC, but it has no bearing on the depth of the SEC.

Yes, there is parity in the conference. Whether or not that translates into the postseason, we'll soon find out.

Last year 13 SEC teams made the regionals with only one (Florida) advancing to the World Series.

Ole Miss up 1-0 vs Missoiri in the 1st.

BTW this stadium is a dump and the stands are empty. Can we go ahead and do the SEC a favor and move this tournament to OKC.

According to the UGA site... the stadium holds 2K...

I think the biggest on campus softball Park in the league besides OU is Bama at around 4K.

My guess is that OKC could get 2-4K for the early day time sessions... 4K+ for the early night sessions... and 4-6K for any sessions involving OU... Probably 4-6K for a non OU final... and 8K plus if OU was in the final.

Alabama also made it to the Women's College World Series last season.

Softball just isnt a huge draw compared to baseball...The tournament rotates around campuses and while I do not know for sure, stadium capacities are not factored in...maybe that changes one day...The highest attended SEC softball tournament was at Bogle Park a few years ago...drawing 16,937 fans...second was at Florida in 2022 drawing 13,200 fans...

Softball SEC Capacities according to NCAA website...It is also noted that some may have additional capacity due to standing room only areas.

Oklahoma 4,200
Alabama 3,940
Arkansas 3,900
Florida 2,691
LSU 2,671
Missouri 2,600
Auburn 2,316
Tennessee 2,200
Kentucky 2,117
aTm 2,000
Georgia 1,400
State 1,400
South Carolina 1,277
Texas 1,252
Ole Miss 1,200

It also looks like they have already named the host sites for the next several years...

2026: Kentucky
2027: Ole Miss
2028: Missouri
2029: Mississippi State

The 2 teams not on your list are Texas and Missouri.

Red & Charline McCombs Field

Mizzou Softball Stadium

Good catch...added...That seems very small for a school the size of Texas. Interesting.

Not trying to derail the thread...but it is highly likely that a centralized tournament location would greatly enhance attendance at these SEC softball events...Though, the top two attended softball tournaments are on opposite ends of the SEC map, in Arkansas and Florida.
