Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Here are the results from the week 3 power rankings polls. There was no difference in #1-8 and #13/14, but #9-12 were hotly contested. The difference in average ranking for #7-10 was very small, so it seems like a large sect of people are still relatively undecided on how to rank the middle section of teams.

COMMUNITY COMMENTS OF THE WEEK

quote:

Vols picked up some injuries in the blowout of Akron. Kind of disappointing there. This week vs Florida is a significant test because we seem to find ways to lose against inferior Florida teams. Tennessee should take advantage of their suspect passing defense, and our run defense has been decent, which may offset their strength on the ground, but I don't know if I buy the 10.5 spread. Should be like the '90s in Knoxville, so a fun game atmosphere.

quote:

Texas A&M could have folded and packed it in after the loss to APP St. They played a decent team in Miami who has scored a ton of points and shut them down with basically a second string defense. Offense showed slight signs of improvement under Johnson , it's a start. If the offense comes around A&M can compete with anybody. Arkansas gets along of publicity for accomplishing next to nothing. A lot of chatter for doing nothing more than A&M does every year. Winning 8 or nine games. They are a good team not great and will find out Saturday where they really are. A&M has had some lapses against the run this year and are clearly younger up front. Arkansas has had the worst pass defense in the entire nation . This will be a battle of the coaches trying to take advantage of the other teams weakness. If A&M can run the ball Arkansas will be in trouble. With the Ags young talented wide receivers back A&M should be able to throw down field . This game comes down to the A&M offensive line. If they play well its over . If they don't it's a close game.

quote:

LSU, beat a good State team convincingly and we're showing a ton of improvement week to week, hell even quarter to quarter but we've still got a ways to go. We get another tune up game before we play at Auburn, Tennessee at home, at Florida, and Ole Miss at home before our Bye Week and come back to play some scrub team.

quote:

Ole Miss. Dominated a georgia tech team they should have dominated. Tulsa, I dont expect it to be the same domination as last week as I think the rebs will be looking ahead to Kentucky a week late. PRediction Ole Miss 34 Tulsa 17.

quote:

Kentucky. Kentucky shutout FCS Youngstown St 31-0. We have another tune up game at home against Northern Illinois. At this point, our defense is good enough to keep us in any game imo. Our offense has a lot of potential but we need to get our run game going. We've had to shuffle our o-line every week due to an injury so hopefully we can get some consistency soon with more reps and CRod coming back.

quote:

Mizzou did fairly mediocre against Albigensian Christian. It’s offensive line failed to get any significant push against a FCS defensive line which is concerning, and the defense was okay but not great. Mevis, our best player, missed two field goals in a game for the first time in his career. The serious fall off of the rushing attacking from the Badie and Rountree years are going to make it very difficult for Mizzou to win, as Brady Cook severely lacks the arm talent to carry this team.

quote:

State: We fricking suck until further notice. If this was the Leach stinker game, then fine. But Will Rogers and Mike Leach looked like the second coming of Mike Henig and Sly Croom in the second half on Saturday. Until they look competent against a team with a pulse, I will rank us last.

POWER RANKING VOTER COMMENTS

quote:

Ole Miss delivered the BOOM in Atlanta, winning 42-0 in a non-competitive game against Georgia Tech. This week, we host Tulsa in our final tune-up game before welcoming Kentucky to Oxford to open SEC play. Our defense looks legit, and our running game is one of the best in the country right now. If the passing game can be efficient, we will be a tough out for anyone in conference play.

quote:

Mizzou. Hard fought win against an FCS team. That's a sentence that should never be written. Battle for the Bottom against the Auburn multiple mascot yellerfellers. Not sure who's a better football team, but their boosters look a lot meaner than ours.

quote:

Florida played USF in week 3. Without Ventrell Miller, the heart and soul of the defense, they gave up almost 300 yards rushing. That was insanely bad and ugly. What makes matters worse, Anthony Richardson is still doing his best Treon Harris impersonation. About the only thing UF has going for them now is a decent secondary and a good run game. But with incredibly bad play at QB and LB, there is only so much the rest of the team can do. I expect pain against Tennessee next week as they have several years of demons to exorcise against one of the worst gator teams I have ever seen.

quote:

Still early in the season, much to learn in the next 2 weeks

quote:

Alabama. We played ULM and there isn’t too much we can take away. It was mostly used to experiment with different lineups and plays. Next up is Vandy and it will probably be more of the same. Teams 3 through 10 could easily be swapped. I think it will take another couple of weeks for teams to separate themselves.

quote:

Kentucky gave it's typical meh performance against Youngstown State. The good news is the defense now has six straight quarters of giving up 0 points. Next up is Northern Illinois. Should be another good tune up before getting into the meat of the schedule. We still need better offensive line play, and a serviceable running game.

quote:

Survived Miami which is impressive considering 12 key Aggie players were out in Miami is expected to contend for a conference championship. Onward to face Arkansas, Who has struggled mightily with weak competition. Will it be a cripple fight? Or a battle of the ages between two decent teams that just haven’t seemed to be able to put it together yet this year?

quote:

Dawgs continue to look scary good; another snooze fest this week; kind of weird going so long without a compelling game...

quote:

Alabama cruised to a 63-7 win over Louisiana-Monroe. A lot of younger players were able to get playing time and that will help with depth moving forward. Next up is a surprising Vanderbilt squad that looks like they have righted the ship under Clark Lea. Regardless, Alabama should roll quite easily. If not, the Tide will have their fans in an uproar.

Arkansas: Survived another Petrino motorcycle crash.

I’d probably rate Tennessee above Arkansas at this point

That 3-6 group is really tough to rank.

I agree. Ole Miss has not played a good team yet and Arkansas has looked great at times and not great at others. Tennessee and Kentucky both have high-quality road wins. To be honest, I think the current ranking for #3-6 is spot on.

Seems like pretty clear tiers forming this season:

1-2
3-6
7-10
11-14

I'd switch vandy and Auburn but other than that looks about right.

Kentucky at #3 seems too high.

Maybe so, but who do you put above them? They've got the single best win of any team in the 3-6 range and they're undefeated. I think Kentucky at 3 is right where they should be right now.

Not sure that I should be honored that my quote was used this time around.

I'm not sold on Bama just yet. We'll find out soon enough, but Bama was lucky to escape with a win over a team (texas) that Arkansas crushed last year. Does it really seem more likely that texas is all of a sudden so improved that they are about as good as the #2 team in the country, or is it more likely that Bama has fallen off a good bit. We'll have a much better idea of everyone not named Georgia stacks up in another week.
