No need for more than four teams. There are barely four teams that are deserving.

BCS
Harris - 105 voters +
Coaches - 62 voters +
Six computer rankings

The BCS "formula" was 33% Harris, 33% coaches and 5.5% for each of 6 computer rankings.

Therefore the formula relied on the arbitrary "logic" of 167 people.

When posters refer to the BCS "formula", they are usually just referring to the one-third that was made up of 6 computer algorithms. Often times they forget that the majority of the poll was simply the opinions of people who were biased (or had no idea what they were doing), and that there wasn't just one computer ranking. IOW, the BCS gets idealized on here into something it wasn't.

Ehhhh...

Most Deserving is probably a bit more accurate than "best". 2019 Oklahoma and 2018 Notre Dame were not among the 4 "BEST" teams in the country, but they were deserving.

I'd trust the cumulative logic of 167 voters + the AP voters, and the computers over the logic of just 13 people. My thoughts are that flawed logic is easier to conceal (or overcome) the more sample points we have.

If they expand, I say go to 6 with 5 p5 conference champs plus the highest ranked G5 champ.

Notre Dame should be forced to join a conference.

I can't think of any year where a team that was left out of the CFP would have had a legitimate shot at winning it. That's not to say that it won't happen....just that it hasn't yet.

TCU 2014. I won't say Baylor also because they lost the cotton bowl to michigan st, but theres nothing to indicate 2014 TCU would have been overmatched by any of the 4 teams that made the playoff.

Clemson does it every year.

So does Bama.

They have 5 appearances each. You didn't know that ?

Yeah, with more voters, the biases should cancel each other out, unless one region is over represented. Then you could get regional biases if not team specific.
