This team has very little talent
Certainly it isn't great but I think the talent is a little better than most think. Especially on defense, last year was just a disaster for them. No way they can be that bad again.
Thing I worry about is their mindset and intangibles. They have had a losing mindet with Dooley last few years. It takes alot of toughness to get that out of you. Dooley's teams folded like no other. This will be Butch's biggest challenge. If Oregon goes up by 10 do they make plays or do they mail it in?

I just don't understand the Butch Jones confidence. The last time that a Butch Jones coached team played an SEC team, it was against COACH DOOLEY AND TENNESSEE in 2011 and Cincinnati got DESTROYED 45-23...

The difference in Talent between the two teams were night and day huge and it showed on the field.

Vols will be at or near the bottom of the SEC west.

True. Sure bray self destructed at the end of both games, but he was the reason the were close to begin with.

IMO it will be a substantial transition period for UT with an entirely new staff, new schemes (defense goes from the 4-3 in '11 to 3-4 in '12 to 4-3 for '13), not to mention the HUGE loss of talent and producers on the offense which was the only thing that worked well last season. Not saying Jones can't get the job done, but it appears to be quite the rebuilding project.....

Rebuilding in the sense of teams from the late 80's 90's and early 2000s yes, but not without talent like some would have you believe. It's going to be a transition without a doubt. But Half of the process is the players buying in to the coach and the scheme, which has happened. There was no leadership under Dooley because Dooley himself wasn't a leader. Nobody was held accountable for what happened on the field the last 3 years. The guys went in got paddd'd and ran through the motions on the field because nobody wanted to play for that peice of shite. Jones has been here since December and already pulled a complete 180.. We'll see how that transitions to the field but it's already a huge step up from from the Terrible three under Doolander

Actually, the last time that a Butch Jones coached team played an SEC team, it was against COACH FRANKLIN AND VANDERBILT in 2011 and Cincinnati won 31-24.

All you naysayers are so right - we'll be lucky to win a game. We should be thinking about forfeiting every game for the protection of our student athletes. I commend your schools on your vast athletic and coaching superiority, particularly in the football realm. Thank you so much for allowing us to learn from you by losing to you for another decade.

No way can I see 8 wins. Maybe if you include a bowl win...but I doubt it. I see 6-6, 7-5 at best.

Yep.
You are welcome!
In all seriousness, UTn will compete with Vandy for 4th in the East.

More realisticly anywhere from 6-6 to 8-4.
That's crazy. No way we sniff 8 wins. 4-8 to 6-6 i'm thinking with the schedule. Its going to take time.

8-4 SEC COTY
7-5 happy
6-6 not bad
5-7 disappointed but still support considering the current state
4-8 maximum over-rustle
3-9 crucifixtion in front of Neyland

UT. Welcome to the Home of the Oregon Ducks! Sept 14. It should be a fun little game to watch!

Okay, not bad, and I usually do not read the BR stuff - but I couldn't resist this time.
He's reaching to believe UT will split with UGA and SCAR but, that's his prerogative and, who knows.
I did get a kick outta the fact that, on page eleven, he mentions three offensive coaches who are considered offensive "gurus" in his opinion ... but he failed to mention the Evil Genius the HBC. I'm sure it was a Freudian Slip. (More likely that he simply does not know the definition of "guru" which, if he had he would have attempted to utilize a more applicable adjective when referring to those three, agreed?)
If we judge Petrino by why he taught his brother, then he does not qualify as a "guru," ... and Helfrich is certainly no guru. And the jury is still out on Malzahn until we see what he can do without Cam.

The theme of the 2013 season for the Volunteers is defending against offensive gurus. First, it was Bobby Petrino. Then, it was Mark Helfrich, a Chip Kelly disciple. Now, it's Auburn's new head coach Gus Malzahn.

I get no pleasure out of Tennessee being in the gutter. I truly hope y'all get your shite together and start winning again. I'd like the Bama-Tennessee game to have conference and national title implications. Unlike you Tennessee fans that loved our troubles from 99-06, i do not enjoy y'alls troubles. Plus we need Tennessee to get good again so LSU fans will STFU about having to play Florida every year while we get a "weak Tennessee squad".
