2004 Auburn also had a perfect season while LSU had a blemish so because so voters decided to to give a trophy to LSU makes it a better season than a perfect one?

No. But I'd take 2004 AU over 2002 LSU.
I would, too. One team was 13-0 while the other team was 8-5. But that isn't the issue here. The issue is over 2004 Auburn and 2003 LSU. I would take 2003 LSU because the offense was better and the defense was as well.

It's not really much of a blemish when a national championship trophy is awarded to you. Tell me, Vandy fan, would you take the 2008 Florida Gators over the 2004 Auburn Tigers in a game of football? Would you take 2003 USC over 2004 Auburn? Or would you vote for 2004 Auburn simply because they didn't lose?

shite, you know what I meant.

That because Auburn fans are insecure and let Bama fans get under their skin. You can't beat a perfect season. It's not like they played a Utah or Boise St schedule. They went undefeated in the league with the best players and coaches.

I forgot voters just gave the trophy away instead of a team winning it. Good thing they do vote trophies to teams, otherwise USC would have been screwed in '03.

No one is saying you didn't deserve the trophy, but still it wasn't as impressive as what AU did in 04.

You can't beat a perfect season if you win a national championship. Had Auburn played for and won the national championship then I would give a slight edge to the '04 Tigers. Since they did not, however, they do not get my vote.

Respectfully, I wholeheartedly disagree.

You seem to be arguing a slightly different point than the questions you asked imply. This question:
isn't asking which accomplishment was more impressive. Most CFB fans would prefer to be perceived as the best team in a given season, have the trophy and the championship listed in their school's record rather than being seen as the third best team going into the bowl games regardless of record differences.

So you think the 72 Dolphins are the greatest team to ever grace the field in the history of football? Your line of reasoning would point to "yes".

They had the best season of course. I said that 2003 LSU would probably win in a head to head, but Auburn's season is way more impressive to me beacause they didn't lose.
2003 USC, and 2003 LSU would have a tough game vs 2004 AU don't act like those teams were just far and away better than AU.
The trophy is supposed to be given to the best team, but there is no way to really know who the best team was. LSU 03 was thought to be the best team, even though they lost to a weak UF team. The AP thought USC was the best team even though they lost to an also ran Pac 10 team, but
AU went undefeated in the SEC which has the best players and coaches with the most big-time programs. This is easily more impressive than losing a game, but still winning the beauty contest.

2004 Auburn was 4th and 10 away from losing to a very mediocre football team fwiw.

Then why the hell are you even on this thread? The whole point of this thread was to discuss which team was better, not who had the better season. And, in my opinion, 2003 LSU had the better season because they actually WON IT ALL.
Would you take Auburn's 1993 undefeated, 11-0, season over Florida State's 1993 national championship season with a 12-1 record?

So is 2009 Bama the best since they went undefeated AND won the NC?

Offense 2004 Auburn and it wasn't even close when compared to the LSU 03 team. Defensively the LSU team has an edge but not an extreme one. Coaching AU over Saban.

I think it is closer than you might think. LSU averaged 34 points a game. Auburn averaged 32 points a game.
LSU's defense in 2003 allowed just 11 points a game. 2004 Auburn's defense allowed 11.3
2003 LSU gets the slight edge.
