It isn't 1980 bad, but Oklahoma hasn't won a national championship since 2000. there are people celebrating their 21st birthday who have never considered Oklahoma a real threat to win it, why will the SEC change that?

To be fair I believe they realized something had to be done to change the narrative.

How many teams have since then 6?
Also since we are SEC now we get to claim the 2008 NC because demarco Murray was out, uhhh also 2019 LSU loss didn’t count either cuz 4 starters were suspended for the playoff game so it was basically the second string LSU beat.

Hey I’m just using the SEC excuses here.
Bama didn’t wanna be there
Auburn didn’t wanna be there
Florida was missing starters etc..

Lol, damn - I don't think I've heard that from a longhorn in easily 7 or 8 years but I've seen it posted by Bama fans at least 3 different times this past week.

Y'all really hated that narrative, huh?

Yes, now instead of "we can't win it all because our conference is too weak" the narrative will be "we can't win it all because our conference is too hard".

lol nah I heard it a ton and it is just such a lame excuse. Tua getting hurt in 2019 cost us the playoffs and the Iron Bowl, but we haven't mentioned it for a while.

Congratulations on exhibition game victories, but the thread is about national championships.

Totally fair. It definitely wasn't meant to discredit Bama in any way (pretty sure they were favored going into the game by 4 or 5 points). It was more so a voice of displeasure at how things shook out.

But yeah - the following decade being our worst ever didn't help much

This.

OU was a threat to win it in 2008, were they not? I feel like making the CFP means you are a ‘threat’ to win it regardless of outcome.

Florida was favored by 5.5, LSU was favored by at least -13, and in 2018-19
Alabama was favored by 14.5. So Alabama is the only team that I know of to not cover against Oklahoma because we are always given ridiculous spreads. I have to bet the under so often, I was glad to do it for Ole miss 2020. 2020 UF vs. Alabama I went Alabama -14 because the spread was 17 which I knew was too high, and it should have actually been a 14 point win if not for Jobe fricking up and touching the db before the play cancelling a fumble. lol The REC lost their way in 2000 and stopped suppressing LSU. They fixed it with Tom Roll Tide Ritter and David Smith. David was actually my little league coach in 2006.

You're equating getting routinely beat down in a national title/playoff games with consolation bowl losses. You realize this, right?

And throw away a chance to chant "SEC!" like a complete idiot? I thought that's what you inbred frickers live for.

Joining the SEC just might help OU get some balls and eventually learn to not lose to inferior programs.
And 2000 easily feels like Georgia fans must be feeling in regards to 1980.
