Three huge differences. This was before the BCS. Both schools were conference champions. Florida lost at FSU.

Bama fans conveniently ignore this when they argue 1996 vs. 2011.

The outcome sucked. But at the time, I thought the rematch was awesome! State championship, national Championship, chance to beat your second biggest rival 2 times in one year!

Cool thing is that with the new playoff system, it could happen again.

Pretty sure some crazy voodoo shite had to happen too.

Big time.

Florida dropped to #4 after losing to Florida State in the regular season. The next week, #3 Nebraska was upset by Texas in the inaugural Big 12 Championship Game. Florida moved up to #3 after beating #11 Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and were slated to play #1 Florida State in the Sugar Bowl because #2 Arizona State and the Pac 10 were not a participant of the Bowl Alliance.

#2 Arizona State was upset by #4 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, thus paving the way for Florida's first ever national championship by beating #1 Florida State in a rematch in the Sugar Bowl.

Watched-it.

That '96 UF offense is more what SCAR's offense is going to aspire to be this season.

Just watching that game it amazes me how similar Wuerful's and Thompson's mechanics are in terms of footwork, throwing motion, etc.

What a great group of WRs UF had that year.

I hope Byrd, Roland, Jones and Cooper ... can do what Green, Hilliard and Anthony did that year.

I remember how bad the first game was in Tally with all the late shite, but I guess I forgot just how bad y'all were in NO for the rematch. Late hits and dirty plays all over the field, the f$u way

We look forward to beating the gates this year - the "Georgia Southern way".

How old are you? This was the first time in years that the outcome of FSU and Miami didn't decide (at least ) who played for the NC. Isn't UGA your biggest rival anyway?

Miami is NOT a bigger rival for y'all, I'm sorry. No FSU poster on Rivals ever talks about them.

If that is the rule for "how big" a rivalry is, then the teasips' biggest rival is far and away the Texas Aggies. You wouldn't know OU existed if you read their message boards.

It's nothing but FU, 4-8ers, Georgia Southern, etc. even with them just winning it all.

FLA vs. FSU had National Title implications from 93-99.

We're flattered. Seriously. But we can't have our biggest rival losing to fcs schools. Miami has more history than FU anyways...

Non-SEC schools are usually obsessed with their in-state SEC counterpart

Of course it's hard to talk trash to Miami fans when they don't exist.
