1980 - How long ago was it, really?

Easy answer is 40 years, or 4 decades, but that's a tough amount of time to comprehend. Average life expectancy in the US is about 78 years, so that's over half a life time.

Now, I (and most Georgia fans on here as well I imagine) are not 40 and thus were not around for that magical National Title in 1980. So its tough to appreciate just how long its been since Georgia was elite (if they ever were). As such I've undertaken the task of getting some info to help those like me better understand just how long 40 years really is.

Its odd, its like when reading about people using fractions of a dollar to buy stuff in the early 1900s. It feels like 1980 was forever ago. But still, the concept is a little abstract. Maybe some events will help

-Zimbabwe was recognized as its own country
-John Lennon was shot
-The post it note was invented
-The Rubiks cube was invented
-Jimmy Carter lost reelection

So the beatles werent dead, Empires still existed, no one had ever heard of those notes that litter many people's desks or the multicolored cube puzzle box, and the man now known for habitat for humanity was in the oval office wearing a sweater

Yeesh 1980 feels like the dark ages.
Imagine only having this as your reasoning for your supposed "elite" status in football. I don't know how Georgia fans do it. Gotta feel bad for them, really puts that loss in the title game a few years ago in perspective.
