Don’t have to lock them out, but they should be ranked high enough to participate
Correct. If you want in then you need to be ranked within the top twelve. No more auto-bids.

100% agree. 16 teams, ranked 1-16 by CFP COMMITTEE, with no byes! If ND or a G5/6 make it, it's because they were in Top 16! Pay the G5s more cash, or if they want to try to take the antitrust thing to court, B18 and SEC do their own tourney

After the CFP announcement today, that in order to appease Notre Dame they will automatically be included in the playoffs if they are Top 12 ... one of two things are guaranteed to happen before this time next year.

1 - The pollsters will intentionally vote Notre Dame out of the Top 12

Or

2 - There will be a 16 team playoff in place this time next season.

Nah. can’t say that.

A team that gets red hot at the end of a season could make a legitimate run.

16 teams, no byes

I like it but would make one tiny alteration, no seeding, pair them up by luck of the draw.

Now THAT would be a tournamet!

Nah, just make it a 48 team playoff. But then again, the 49th ranked team will be bitching, so let's just open it up to all D1 teams. Yeah, t that's the ticket!

No sisters of the poor teams

No conference championships. P4 champs go automatically using regular season tiebreakers, Rest of 16 field is based on highest ranked teams. No DEI for non P4 teams like James Madison or Tulane. This will force non P4 schools to to schedule more than 1 non conference P4 team.

8 teams.

There are already at least 2-3 teams that are fortunate to be in the CFP.

I’m pretty sure #’s 17-20 will argue their placement.

They're ranking?

Sure they will. They do in basketball and baseball as well ... but the computer metrics are what they are.

SC deserved to be in March Madness twice ... being the first one out twice. It was wrong. Teams that were far less qualified made it in both times ... while both times SC won the NIT.

But it is what it is.
