When you’re only getting 3-4 teams in the tournament, and your tournament revenue is based on how many games schools from your league play in, yeah Birmingham wasn’t going to stand for mediocrity much longer.
As recently as 2016 the SEC had a year with only three NCAAT teams, and one of those was Vandy who only appeared in one of the Dayton games.
