But, but, but... LINK

Harvey Updyke WINS 2011 Finebaum Caller of the Year!! Over 10,000 votes were cast and the infamous 'Al from Dadeville' wins this year's prestigious honor. Harvey ended the competition with over 40% of the total vote, with Legend finishing second. Jim from Crestwood came in third... Tammy in fourth... Jeff in Chicago was fifth

If people voted for Updyke as a "support" then that is sad and pathetic (doubtful that's why though).

If they voted for him b/c they wanted him to win so they could bitch then that is sad and pathetic (possible).

If they voted for him b/c his call had more impact in 2011 than any other call then that is understandable. It did. It reached a level of stupidity only surpassed by his actions, but it had more impact than the ranting and raving of any of the other calls in the year.

My feelings exactly. I don't take this as proof that every bama fan supports Updyke or his actions

I think you hit on the three reasons folks voted for him for this PRESTIGOUS HONOR (Fbaums words).... Still sad that he would win that vote for whatever reason... To me it shows that many many bama fans like this guy... Some bama fans treat him like a hero, I guess that is to be expected..

Exactly. It is the same reason Reid's interception against Bama is #1 on many "best plays" lists. It wasn't even LSU's best play of the year, but the significance of the game and timing of the play lifts it above the others.

Agree, alot of sidewalk Bama fans support him, but they're in the minority. Most of these people are your fineburn types, so I'm not suprised he won.

print the shirts bammers.

Also...wasn't his call that really made his name from 2010?

Everything else has just been talking about about how much bama he has in him, right?

A lot of people here support him just because we hate him so much.

The guy's call to Finebaum made every major media outlet in the nation and is still one of the top sports stories in the Southeast. Updyke was definitely caller of the year. Charles from Reeltown won COY because he was an idiot and was hilarious.

A would bet a vast majority of delusional militant gumps love what updyke did, they just wouldn't admit it on here or publicly. Some gumps are not delusional or militant and probably feel mystified like the rest of the country, at the level of delusion of the updyke actions/supporters.

I would think he won because of the importance of that call and the turmoil after the call. I don't think most Alabama fans support what he did. I'm sure there are some that do, but they are in the minority.

If he would have kept his mouth shut and never made the call, no one would have known it happened until the trees died.

Him probably getting a tattoo is a good point.

When was the call made? I thought it was made early this year.

What does the Finebuam Caller of the Year winner get? I am assuming it is a Walmarks gift card and a carton of Lucky Strikes.

Hopefully they don't give that POS anything. He has gotten more attention then he deserves already.
