In Alabama's retirement system, you get paid 75% of the average salary of your last 3 years in the system.
I wish. But, no you don't. It's closer to 45% and it caps out. For example, if Nick Saban were to retire with the UA system, he would not get anywhere near a 3.5 million a year retirement package.

If the rumors of Avery Johnson's agent being in contact with Bill Battle are true, then AJ is very much an option.
Where are you hearing of any rumors of contact?

I would cry. I do not want AJ in the SEC.

I heard from a friend who has a very well connected friend in the AD that AJ wants the job. Take it FWIW

The delusion iof bama basketball fans is starting to surpass Arkansas football fans.
The idea that Avery Johnson was some great player and coach in the NBA is laughable. He averaged 8 points a game as a player. As a coach, he went to the finals 1 time, but he was either eliminated in the first round or missed the playoffs totally every other year

When did any of us claim that he was a great NBA coach or elite player? We think he would be a great recruiter and promoter of the program.

AJ got robbed out of a Finals championship. Anyone that watches the NBA knows this.

He coached for the Mavs and the Nets. His record for the Nets was horrendous, He had a good regular season record with the Mavs, but the Mave have always been fairly good during the regular season every since Mark Cuban has owned them

What's your point?

You clearly don't comprehend both AJ's ability and the difference from college and professional basketball. I'm not even expanding further. Anyone who would look at an NBA coach's record singularly to form an opinion how that would translate is an absolute moron.
No offense...

AJ- One finals, career winning %
Calipari- zero final, losing %
Pitino- zero finals, losing %

UPDATE #10 (8:30PM 4/2) New names surfacing in coaching search... According to someone with AD ties, the names being floated around today were: Archie Miller (Dayton) Avery Johnson (O RLY?) Steve Prohm (shoot me) I expect some new names to pop up here and there over the next week or so. If we're left with someone like Steve Prohm or Richard Pitino, we might as well burn it to the ground and start over.
What about Chuck Person?

Please hire AJ. He only has a winning record because he was hired by an organization that always been pretty good under Cuban

That's kind of a key point. The NBA and college game are much different. AJ has never coached in the college game. He has managed ego's....which is the main job of an NBA coach.

Avery Johnson would be an interesting hire...risky, but interesting.

I agree. I would not want Auburn hiring him, but he may be a solid hire. There are just so many unknowns, as far as his ability to recruit/coach, at the college level. He is a well spoken guy. He might be able to recruit, but with no prior experience doing it, I would be a bit apprehensive. Of the names that are being thrown around for/by bama, he is probably second on the list.

Avery Johnson would be a terrible hire, he is a horrible x's and o's coach. My favorite team in the NBA is the Mavericks, the guy had the most talent to work with when he was coaching them and wasted it year after year. I hope Bama hires him
You gumps are fapping over him only because he use to be an NBA coach.

I hope we do. Would be a great rivalry with Pearl.

Bama hiring AJ would create the same kind of good PR buzz that Auburn received when hiring Pearl. Many people in the basketball world know and like both coaches. Granted, Pearl has an advantage in keeping the momentum going seeing as he has a successful college track record to go on. No guarantee how long AJ could keep the momentum going. It's a risk worth taking though if it comes down to him or a Prohm level hire.
