Would give instant credibility to the program and immediately trump in-state recruiting, IMO.
Dude has never recruited a player in his life. He has also never been on a college staff in his life. He hasn't had to follow any NCAA rules, as far as recruiting and practice schedule. The style of play in college and the NBA are very different also. IF you get him............it could work out but it's just as likely that it will be a disaster.

Ouch. Still, ya never know with these things. Good luck just not too much luck...well unless your new coach can't beat us to save his life. I'm sure y'all understand.

I agree, but the chance of him being insanely successful is just as big. If a former NBA player, head coach, and ESPN analyst calls a 16 year old, the phone gets picked up. That's something we can't say about any other candidate we have, including Gregg Marshall. He would elevate Alabama basketball to a "sexy" level it has never seen before. I don't know if it would translate to wins, but just being relevant is a start.

I prefer Archie Miller but if he holding out for a blue blood job and Avery Johnson really wants the job I think it's a risk worth taking. He hasn't recruited but he certainly has a personality that connects with players. Get a couple of good college assistants who can recruit on staff and he has the potential to be a great hire.

Dude. He was never coming, especially with Texas wanting him. Texas was a great opportunity for a coach.

Houston fans were saying the same thing about Clyde Drexler and UALR fans about Sidney Moncrief...

Oh and that was the selling point for UCA and Corliss.

When was Clyde Drexler an NBA head coach for a decade?

What does being an NBA head coach have to do with recruiting?
Your whole argument is he would be an instant success on the recruiting trail calling kids who are not old enough to remember watching him play...

Does it guarantee he can recruit? No. But kids will know a laundry list of NBA stars he has coached before and they will recognize him from watching NBA games on ESPN. He's high risk, high reward, but I honestly think that might be our best route if Archie says no. The #1 question today's 5 star basketball player has is can you get me to the NBA. I feel like he could answer that question very well.

Someone please tell me Dale and lefty are trolls because there's no way people can be this frickin dumb.
What in the flying frick do Clyde Drexler and Sidney Moncrief have in common with AJ coaching wise? Also, no one is suggesting AJ doesn't already have a great gig. This whole discussion is based on the assumption that the reports of AJ's interest in college coaching is genuine.
