The delusion that your basketball program has some great tradition

Which Bama posters, specifically, have said that?

Bama bball is better historically than you are giving it credit for, but it isn't horrible, either. Bama has 20 NCAA tourney appearances all time. AU only has 8. AU has made a total of 4 Sweet 16s. Bama has made it to 8 Sweet 16s.

The fact that you don't have a basketball tradition on par with Alabama didn't prevent you guys from hiring a "name" coach last year who saw opportunity and thought he could build on your foundation. Why wouldn't Bama be able to do the same this year?

He's not worth arguing with. I had been on the fence about his status as an elaborate troll or actual ITAT level AU fan. But he's defintely a troll. I've tried to talk civilly with said poster, even offering compliments about Auburn. He just ignores them and only deals in negative comments.

These are not mutually exclusive. He is both.

Texas may still be in play....

A knowledgeable source informs me that as of this morning there have been no direct talks b/t Texas and Shaka Smart. Not sensing momentum.

@ChrisMannixSI: Keep an eye on NBA coaches for the Texas job. AD Steve Patterson has an NBA background and has spoken with NBA coaching agents recently.

Not if they are capping out at $3m. Texas is probably going to hire an NBA coach like Avery Johnson. It does appear that they intend to hire an AA coach, though.

Nothing about Marshall to Alabama makes sense except the cash. And 4.1 million is a lot of cash. In football terms this would be like hearing rumors that Bielema was leaving Arkansas for Iowa St. It would make no sense on any level until you heard that Iowa St was offering him 10 million a year.

This is what I'm thinking as well.

Seth Davis also mentioned Brad Stevens. That would be the homerun of homerun hires.

Texas is unquestionably a better basketball program than Alabama, but the only thing that might keep Bama in the discussion (if UT is willing to match our offer) is how Barnes left. My concern as a coach would be what are my expectations at each school in order to keep my 4 mil salary? At Alabama it is consistently make the tournament most years and make a run at the sweet 16 or elite 8 every so often. That is what got Barnes fired. So does UT expect to consistently be in final 4's and win titles as if they are Duke, UK, etc? If they fire Barnes and pay his replacement double, I would assume they expect much much better than making the tournament every year.

#Texas' contact with #VCU coach Shaka Smart has come through #UT's search firm. That way everyone can say "no direct contact."

If you can take Chip Brown seriously.
