It seems a little high to me to higher a mid major coach and make him the 3rd or 4th highest coach. Especially one who has never won a title. I guess I understand though that Bama feels they have to go out on a limb and go all in. It is a bold strategy, we will see if it pays off

This is exciting.

I remember the coaching search years for football. The two months before Saban was hired were the most unproductive months in my life. Haha

Izzo doesn't even make 4....I personally think he's a better coach and aren't he and Saban good friends? But maybe Izzo won't leave and they already know that. He is pretty old and has it made.

Hire, not higher.

He would go from 25th highest paid to 5th highest paid in country and it would show how serious Bama is about Basketball success.

He's been to the final four, a #1 seed, and is widely believed to be a top 5-10 coach in the country. That's a pretty sturdy limb.

I wasn't implying that Bama could get Izzo even though that would be a Saban type hire. I just thought that was a little high for a coach that hasn't won a title.

Oh I know. I was just kind of thinking out loud wondering why you wouldn't throw that at Izzo.

Just thinking out loud, but a couple of reasons that come to mind are:

(1) Izzo makes something like 3.5 now, so you're only offering him a small raise that Michigan State would probably match if they thought he was seriously considering it.

(2) Izzo's 60. Marshall's 52. Not a huge difference, but if you think you can get him and have really big success you're looking at getting another decade out of Marshall.

I feel exactly the same way. Would be hard to turn down $4mm/yr salary, but is Marshall really worth that kind of cash?

Even if bama gets some decent coach, their climb back up is not going to be nearly as easy as most posters on here believe. The top in state prospects over the next couple of years are likely going to Auburn or out of state.

Danjel Putifoy was the top player for 2015 and he already signed with Auburn

Josh Langford is the top player for 2016 and he is likely going out of state to play for one of the traditional blue bloods

Austin Wiley is the top player for 2017. His mother and father are both former Auburn basketball players

This kid's name slipst my mind right now, but I recentl read an article on 247 sports that the top player for 2018 also grew up an Auburn fan

Just more reasons why any decent coach would be wise to avoid the bama basketball program

I agree. But I will extend this to any SEC west program. If you are a mid-major who is dominating and on everyone's short list, why the hell would you risk going to Bama or LSU and blowing your whole career?

Is there a reason why the new Bama bball coach can't recruit OOS?

Bruce should be able to pull those guys you mentioned. Bama has recruited pretty well over the years, Grant just couldn't translate the talent to the court.

Grant had a transfer issue.
