The only hire I can think of that may have been worse is when they thought Rush Limbaugh would be a good sports commentator.
Matt Millen consistently gets facts wrong about the teams he's covering, demonstrates little to no knowledge of X's and O's, and defended Paterno when it was becoming very clear the man helped hide some atrocious crimes.

I think Saban's strength is in planning, not in-game adjustments.
