UK football scheduling under Mike Slive request for better OOC games

With the SEC games at 8 it leaves 4 slots. I say schedule the basketball schools in the 4 power conferences (possibly substituting WSU in the PAC because Leach is there now)
Game #1 = ACC school (Duke) - UK is 0-4 vs Duke but all those games were played in the 1930's when Duke had a good football team. Should sell better than Alabama State type game.
Game #2 = PAC school (Washington State) - UK is 0-0 vs the Cougars but with Mike Leach there you know it will attract broadcast interest. In addition UK would get recruiting exposure on the west coast.
Game #3 = B 12 school (Kansas) - UK is 0-3-1 vs the Jayhawks but they tied in the last meeting in Lexington in 1982. The upside is we could use the game when recruiting kids from the B12 footprint
Game #4 = B1G school (Indiana) - UK is 17-18-1 vs the Hoosiers but 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. Play this game in Paul Brown as the season ender every year and split the stadium seating in half like they did for the old UK vs IU basketball games. The upside is you get exposure to OH recruits (who Stoops is going after) while playing a game that will sell better than UK playing some CUSA / Sun Belt team and losing to. If UK baseball is recruiting IN and OH kids that want SEC exposure why not do the same in football?
I am in the Adolph Rupp scheduling philosophy of you do not schedule schools in the state because you have no upside and terrible downside. Not playing Louisville every year means if you are recruiting kids in state UK is the only option to play as an SEC team. I say go back to the old days when UK did not play in state schools.

Here is the swap SoS based on last years final Sagarin numbers
UK was #93 in 2012
Louisville = #27 : SoS @ 70
vs
Kansas = #98 : SoS @ 3
+67 SoS = advantage Kansas
Kent State = #60 : SoS @ 107
vs
Duke = #73 : SoS @ 51
+ 56 SoS = advantage Duke
Western Kentucky = #91 : SoS @ 117
vs
Indiana = #76 : SoS @ 56
+ 61 SoS = advantage Indiana
Samford = #132 : SoS @ 163
vs
Washington State = #104 : SoS @ 31
+ 132 = advantage Washington State
UK could easily have the #1 SoS in the USA every year while not exactly toughening up the schedule in the process. In the meantime you are getting teams that will have more demand than the current cream puff slate. I bet tons of UNC fans would tune in to see us beat Duke.

I'd like to see UK play Cincy. They're close enough that their fans will travel and would help fill out the stadium Plus Tubbs is there now and they won't be very good for a few years till he gets the players he needs.

I could see that and it puts an SEC team in a market that Ohio State covets based on this Gee comment at the 11:10 mark LINK
The downside is without Big East or ACC membership the Bearcats may be heading to CUSA type obscurity in the era of 4 power conferences.

I like your choices. UK needs to play big boy conference teams they can beat. I do like the idea of playing Indiana again, or Purdue. I could also substitute UNC/NC State for Duke, but I would agree, one of those teams as well.

Any BSC school that UK can beat would be great for the program. They need to get their name out their more and more. Do they put billboards up around the Cincy area? I've seen AU, GT, UGA, Bama, LSU, UF all put up billboards around the metro ATL area and the kids love it.

Here are the schools you named all time vs UK (already did IU and Duke in previous post)
Purdue - (1-2) Last played home and home in 1914 and 1915
Sagarin in 2012 = 71 with SoS of 48
NCST - (1-1) Last played in 1090 and 1970
Sagarin in 2012 = 64 with SoS of 65
UNC - (5-5) Last played home and home in 1989 and 1990
Sagarin in 2012 = 43 with SoS of 77
Here is UK vs Bearcats
UC - (22-9-3) Last played home and home in 1995 and 1996
Sagarin in 2012 = 36 with SoS of 80

Memphis is another team the Cats could play that is mainly a basketball school and the area produces a ton of football players

I can see Memphis if they think they can make recruiting inroads but the offsetting issue is if the Tigers will bump up the SoS if they are not in a Big 5 conference.

Seems like Illinois is down now and getting a neutral game in Chicago with a return game in Cincinnati would be good getting SEC exposure in B1G territory.

bump for WKU vs UK ending thread

I think IU/Purdue/Illinois/Southern Miss/NC/NC State/Pittsburgh/Rutgers would all be winnable games most years, and UK should go out a bit to play for recruiting reason. Cincy is like WKU, we are already recruiting players in those areas.
Memphis is a good idea though.

Sadly, I think Louisville is going to be the only home and away nonconference opponent for now. The other three games will consist of Home games against a 1-AA school, a MAC school and a Sun Belt or C-USA school. I would like to see another marquee nonconference opponent, but don't think UK is going to give up any future home games for one.
