I remember watching LSU/A&M play back in the 80s and ESPN would always hype Harvey Williams being a native of Hempstead (pretty damn close to College Station) and how much it meant to him to beat the Aggies. He chose LSU over the Aggies after a heated recruiting battle that coincided with the renewal of the rivalry. Those were some very heated contests, with the Tigers winning 3 of 4 games with Harvey Williams and losing 5 in a row after his departure.

Today, LSU has 13 players on the roster from Texas, including several from the Houston area. That's more double the number of players we have from Alabama (5). We don't have a single player from Arkansas on the roster. Honestly, I was surprised to find out we only have 3 kids from Mississippi on the roster right now.

A look at the Aggie roster reveals they have 8 players from the state of Louisiana, mostly from South Louisiana where LSU football is a religion. Like LSU, the Aggies lack any players from the state of Arkansas. No other state (other than Texas obviously) has more players on the Aggie roster than Louisiana. And it isn't even close.

So forget the fan perspective. You gotta think that several players on both teams will be very excited about the chance to beat a school that no doubt recruited them or was a big part of their lives growing up in their home state.

Aren't we closer to A&M than any other school? I'm not exactly certain about that, so correct me if I'm wrong..

I can't wait to play the Aggies on a yearly basis again. It started getting real heated in the 90's. It's gonna turn into a rivalry in a couple of years. And now Arkansas can take Mizzou. We all win!!!!

No, we aren't.

It's about 335 miles to College Station.
StarkVegas comes in at about 300 miles.
Oxford is 332 miles.
Tuscaloosa is 345 miles.

So they're all roughly the same distance away from Baton Rouge.

But none of those other schools are close to a major metro like Houston that has a shitload of Louisiana ex-pats and LSU alumni.

we're rivalries with whoever the other best team in the SEC is at the time.

first it was auburn...then it was UF....now its bama.

Once bama starts sucking again it'll probably go back to UF or maybe A&M.

thats how shite works now....people should deal with it

This is true.

But A&M has the potential to be a game people care about regardless of the records.

Real rivalries aren't dependent on both teams being relevant in the pecking order just long as the game itself is competitive and there are other components that get the fans and players interested. This game has some of the "other components" (lagniappe?) that the game with Arkansas sorely lacks.

Personally, I think Ole Miss should remain our rival but they seem unable to oblige us by keeping the games competitive and the younger fans don't feel the hate.

Starkville is closest - 301 miles, followed by Oxford at 335, then College Station at 358 miles, according to mapquest.

The current series is LSU 27 wins, A&M 20 Wins and 3 Ties. That's pretty close considering that between the years 1942-1949 and 1960-1975 all the games were played Baton Rouge.

I must say, watching the hogs scurry from pillar to post trying to show us how much they don't care about losing that timeslot for the lsu game is good quality entertainment the entire family can enjoy!

Do you Ags ever get tired of kissing LSU's butt? I have never seen Aggie sycophancy until now. I'm happy for you that you get to keep a Thanksgiving game. Congrats on that.

And do you LSU folks not understand that the Ags would be playing Texas every Thanksgiving if they would agree to it? My goodness, much of the entire Aggie fb culture is based upon their hate of Texas.Clearly LSU is TAMU's second choice for Thanksgiving weekend.

You guys are pretty entertaining as well, third spur

Of course I understand that. And in time, the Aggies and Whorns will kiss and make up and schedule each other again.

Just like Mizzou and Kansas.

Really? I did not know this. Tell me more.

Sidenote... Aggie jokes have been a regular feature in the Baton Rouge paper for decades now. The Aggies never ceased being a source of entertainment in Baton Rouge whereas the Piggies never started being an entity we cared about.
