Quincy's take from 247:

quote:

"I feel like Kincade and Chad's balls have a lot of zip on them," Adeboyejo said Monday following the Rebels' fifth day of fall camp. "You've got to really focus on those balls.

"Ryan, he puts the balls in good spots and they're kind of easy to catch. They all have some pretty good arms."

Adeboyejo stopped short of saying anyone in particular was standing out in the race to replace Bo Wallace.

"They're all fighters. One guy will do better one day, one guy will do better the next. They're just all grinding trying to get that spot," shared Adeboyejo.

I'm still not sold on RB being able to stretch the field and that is something our offense really needs.

I think all of them could stretch the field better than Bo did last year just because they all can throw the ball 20+ yards. I really just cant wait to see one of them throw a deep ball it has been way to long since I've seen one in a meaningful game.

Snead to Wallace had a few that were things of beauty. The dagger at the end of the first half of the 08 Egg bowl comes to mind.

Snead to Hodge in the FL game wasn't necessarily a long throw, but that was such a memorable play.

Remember the Snead to Wallace at the Cotton Bowl? Snead threw it into double coverage and some how Wallace came up with it!

There were 3 throws in one series that made everyone believe the Snead hype: I think it was Breaux, McCluster, Wallace back to back to back ending in a fade to Wallace for 6. Was there for that one too

All the offenses under Saban at Alabama outside of last year were very heavy run with the threat of play action deep balls.

Incorrect.

Percentage of pass yards in total offense - Alabama in the Saban era
2014: 57.3%
2013: 54.7%
2012: 48.9%
2011: 50.1%
2010: 58.8%
2009: 46.7%
2008: 48.1%
2007: 60.1%

Saying Alabama is a "very heavy run" team is statistically incorrect.

He doesn't have to stretch the field as much as you think if our run game is remotely solid.

Even the threat of the run can give our play action threats (two of the best in college football) the window they need to create space between them and a defender.

Are we sold on Buchanan's arm being stronger than Wallace's?

To me, that's all we need. Someone whose arm is stronger than Bo's and who LIMITS THE GOT DANG TURNOVERS.

I'm under the mindset that the only way we have a decent run game is if we are also stretching the field vertically. We'll see.

I think we can run to set up the pass more this fall.

I mean, we should be able to, at least. We're in the fourth year of the Freeze era, have the most experienced offensive line in the SEC, he potential #1 overall pick at left tackle, a host of seemingly talented runningbacks, two of the best deep threats in the country (Engram, Treadwell), and one of the nation's best defenses to lean on.

That's assuming we can run it.

It goes back to what I said yesterday: do you pass to set up the run, or run to set up the pass?

I'm now under the mindset that we can run to set up the pass next fall.

The key to it all is not having consistent second and nine, second and ten down and distances. Hell, Freeze said that himself in the Grove Bowl: "I don't have a lot of plays in the playbook for second and nine."

I'm so sick of the 2nd&11's and 2nd&9's we need to at least average 3 yards per carry on first down. That's all I freaking ask.

A) We know that is not all you ask.

B) While trailing in any game, we had 111 carries for 172 yards (1.6 YPC). We only picked up 11 first downs on those 111 carries too.
