In 1998, Matt earned his Bachelor or Science in industrial engineering from Mississippi State. After graduation, he joined the gubernatorial campaign for then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Following the campaign, he serviced as a regulator for the Arkansas Public Service Commission, inspecting natural gas lines throughout the state. After leaving sate government, Matt became a life insurance agent for New York Life and received his securities registration from the National Association of Securities Dealers, passing the Series 6 and 63 examinations on the first try and on the same day.

In 2000, Matt joined the staff of the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as a research analyst in the ministry’s partner communications department. While living in Oklahoma, Matt realized that in order to help people more efficiently, he needed to become an attorney. In 2003, Matt enrolled at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 2006, Matt received his Juris Doctor and was admitted to the Mississippi Bar later that year. In 2009, he was admitted to the Tennessee Bar, and in 2011 he became a registered patent attorney.
