I don't think Gundy is going anywhere.

If Lane leaves, I'm not sure who I'd want to hire.
I think Keith is going to go big, as he did when we hired Lane. I don't see him hiring a retread, like Gus or Freeze. I also don't think he'd want to trust our program to an unproven coordinator, given the state of college football with the portal and NIL. That really narrows it down to a small list, and I'm not sure who'd be on it. Of course, this is all hypothetical.

There's rumors that he's been butting heads with boosters lately.

Those rumors have been around for years. He’s highly paid, a legend, and essentially unable to be fired. I just don’t see it happening. I’m not sure I want him either. I don’t know if he could replicate that success here.
I can see him retiring though. So much of his success is predicated on guys buying in the system and working their asses off for a few years. That’s not the way college football is going now, for better or worse.

I think my list would shape up like:
Unlikely, but make say no:
Fickell
Gundy
Could probably get to say yes:
Arenda
Lance Leipold
Matt Rhule
Wild cards:
Liam Coen
Don't drop below:
Chadwell
Sumrall

Out of that list the only one I like is Aranda

Other than Freeze, who are you thinking we'd look at?

Why frick no at Gundy? He’s been the model of consistency at OSU?
Posted on 11/22/22 at 8:56 am to OleVaught14
I don’t think we would actually look at him FYI, just that we should.
Honestly I’m not entirely sure. Aranda is the only one that stands out to me as a good replacement option. But Baylor is going to make us pay for him.

Also, we beat the shite out of them every time we play them, so I'm not sure how I feel about him coming here.

Did you watch him at Temple and Baylor? Are we closer to Temple and Baylor or NFL Carolina Panthers? This will be an A+ hire for someone. He wants back in the NFL though.

Oklahoma State was a .500 all-time program before he got there and that in-state rival happens to be the winningest program since 1950. They also only had one conference title following WWII before he got there (it was shared and not outright, too).
Gundy has led them to 7 of their 10 ten-win seasons, FFS, all in the modern era.
This is what their stadium looked like when he started in 2005. It seated less than 50,000.
Real life is much different than NCAA 2014.

We beat the shite out of them when we had some of our absolute best teams.
Then we sat home with 3 or 4 wins within a year or two while they still went to bowl games.

Currently he makes in the mid-$7mill a year range. If we’re going to spend $9.5 mill a year on a new coach, I’d rather take my chances with someone with a history of program stability.

I'm not saying don't make Gundy an offer. I'm saying I doubt he would leave.
The arrogance of some of our fans is mind-blowing. Despite not winning the conference since before integration and playing in the toughest division in college football, one particular fan in this thread has indicated he wouldn't want Gundy because he has only won his conference once.

Which…..at least to my knowledge…..is one more than we’ve won

It reminds me of the Mike Leach rumors a few years ago. Our fans were quick to shoot that down, saying all Leach could do is consistently win 8-9 games, despite our perennial losing record
