Confidently incorrect. He forced the move and when the boosters wanted to hire McIntyre to replace Luke, he told them to frick off and hired Lane instead.

This is basically what happened. Lane was a Carter hire… DEFINITELY not the boosters, at least the old guard.

I don't believe this for a second. Not even our idiot boosters would pick McIntyre over Kiffin.

Old crotchety honkeys would absolutely pick McIntyre over Kiffin.

FWIW McIntyre did do wonders for the defense so he would have been a step up from Luke but I dont think he would have been on anyone's radar the way Kiffin has been.

There records as college HC's prior to the hiring (and Lane's includes the messes he inherited at UT and USC):

MacIntyre 46-65
Kiffin 61-34

Mac is a good defensive coach, but only an idiot would think he was a fit at Ole Miss.

In MacIntyre's defense, you have to look at his situation before judging him on record. He took over two really bad programs. In fact, he has had the only good season for Colorado in the last 20 years or so. I'm not saying he would have been a good fit but just looking his win-loss isn't a true indicator.

You're using logic.

Our old guard boosters don't do that.

Unfortunately there are some that would and I know some personally, one huge donor In particular, who give lots of money to athletics, were really against the Kiffin hire. The one person who I know has come around but some can’t get over that fact that they can’t get in the program like they could with luke and Freeze. One old fart said he wasn’t “Ole Miss Enough”. What’s that even mean I have no clue but It’s sad honestly.

The old, old guard wants an "Ole Miss" guy who will play golf with them like the Steve Sloans of the past.

That's why they never gave Orgeron a chance and why they didn't like the idea of Lane coming in.

I see your point, but honestly, Orgeron didn't give Orgeron a chance.

oh definitely he did nothing to help himself out both on the field and off....but he still was never going to be given a chance.

hell...he was never even hired to be a successful coach here. They hired him just to recruit his arse off a couple years then move on.
