Quietest I’ve seen this board in years. Is it really that bad? Call me delusional; I’m optimistic about this year post-season or no post-season, Luke or no Luke. We just need to outscore every team. I’m saying it, this is the best trio of WRs in all of college football.

Brown

Metcalf

TN has a better coach than us.

Yes our WR's are exciting but what happens after this year?

I honestly feel more lost than Nutts last year. What do we do now? Why didn't we take the Auburn approach to the NCAA? I want to be wrong about Luke but I think we've made a terrible decision and I'm sure I'm not the only one to think that.

That being said I hope Luke wins 10 national title's and is know as the GOAT.

I will either be pleasantly surprised or fully embracing the reality that we’re about to spend years wandering the woods again come September

If he would ease up on the bible talk id welcome him with open arms. Imagine the damage we would of done if he had Longo from the start.

Fire Matt Luke and hire someone who knows what they are doing and doesn't look like a deer caught in the headlights against fricking Cal.

Do that then people will be interested. Until then, I hope we fail miserably so everyone rooting for Luke because "he loves Ole Miss" feels like the moron that they are. Unless he has the same kind of success Freeze had in recruiting and on the field, he's a failure in my eyes

That’s just it though HJJ. There’s only upside to this year. If he fails miserably, it was expected. If he does average, it’s a win in my opinion and a middle finger to the NCAA that we can remain competitive and a .500 team even considering their petty and malicious investigation. If he wins, we’re pleasantly surprised. I think he won the players over last year and it’s going to be very rare to find a HC who wants to be with Ole Miss in the long term. Freeze was an exception and he fricked that up. I mean, maybe that improves with time as our alumni pool grows, but honestly ask yourself who was in the running other than Luke that truly wanted to be here and help keep building the OM brand. Luke wants to be at OM. This is his destination. shite, I want to see what the guy can do with the team this year. If he falls on his face, I’ll be here to eat crow.

It is what it is. Freeze happened. NCAA happened. We’re on the inside looking out. Luke is here for now. I plan to watch OM on Saturdays this year with a smile on my face and a beer in hand, and hey maybe I’ll even have a few cold chicken tenders under a fake crystal chandelier or whatever. And if Luke falls flat on his face I’ll just be disappointed then and get over it.

I wish we had thrown the checkbook at a proven coach but what’s done is done.
I do think Longo’s Offense with Ta’amu will put some points up. I’m hoping the problem
was Shea and not the scheme. Defensively, we can’t be worse. If Luke leaves the
coaches alone it might be somewhat enjoyable.

Yeah defense makes me very nervous. We usually have at least a couple of guys step up and break out. Just curious who those guys will be.

I don't think Hugh Freeze returning would be ideal. His whole recruiting gimmick has been shattered with massage-gate; and let's not kid ourselves into thinking that he was an exceptional play caller.

Also, I'm not sure where this meme of our offense being able to score points "on anyone" is coming from exactly. There were several times where our offense just shut down completely for entire quarters last season even against competition with average defenses.

As for Matt Luke being the head coach, I guess we'll see next season. Our fanbase seems placated with mediocrity as long as we still "win the party".

Didn’t it stall mostly with Shea though? Also I know Shea played against most of the big boys but Tamu just fits better and allows a play to develop. Shea just bailed at the first sight of trouble. Tamu is at least big enough to run the read option because he’s not a 6ft 200 pound QB that will shatter into a 100 pieces.

As far as next year’s WRs go, will it be what we have now? No way. Hard to replace an AJ Brown. I’m not 100% sold on Metcalf going pro, depends on the year he has IMO. I’d say it’s very likely, but not sold.

We will have Braylon Sanders, Elijah Moore, DeMarcus Gregory, and Miles Battle waiting in the wings. This is a great year for all of these guys to get experience. And who knows. With guys like Mike Wallace, Laquon Treadwell, Stringfellow, AJ Brown, Lodge, Engram, and Metcalf coming out of Oxford in recent years, I think our chances of landing another top-rated WR within the next year are high. We may not see the playoffs anytime soon but OM is still a platform and gateway to the NFL and recruits know that. A top rated player can come in and start immediately.

There’s rumors about getting Ta’amu another year of eligibility and let’s not forget we signed a top rated QB in the last class. All is not lost, Luke and company just need to do work on the recruiting end.

I’m not exactly sure the basis for getting another year, but I read about it yesterday in a Spring recap article and was able to find it again in this article from March.

LINK

Does say though he is preparing for this Fall to be his final year.

Edit: left a word out

No. The Arkansas and aTm games were both after Shea went down. We had a damn near un-losable cushion against Arkansas, but the offense stopped scoring and the defense let Arkansas back into the game and eventually let the pigs beat us, again. We were up 31-7 in Q2, but we only scored two more field goals the entire game and lost 38-37. It was 31-21 at half. The offense completely disappeared after looking unstoppable for most of the first half. The offense in the aTm game likewise completely disappeared in the second half, albeit for both squads. Even in the Egg Bowl, the offense took its foot off the pedal to a degree, and the defense started leaking points. Thankfully, the 31-13 lead we had with 8:23 left in the game was enough points, even if we did let State score 15 unanswered points in the final eight and a half minutes. This offseason would be downright bleak if we’d WAOMed our way out of the blowout we were putting on them mere weeks after doing the same to Arkansas. Our defense sucked, and it’ll probably suck again this year.

It seemed like Longoball would eventually hit a wall regardless of who took the snaps, with the exception of the Kentucky game. The offense would run out of tricks, and we’d stop scoring. Hopefully that’s not the case for 2018, but we can’t take our foot off the gas, ever, if we hope to win games.

Arkansas was his first game cant really count that and if you weren't frustrated with the play calling in the A&M game i don't know what to tell you.

I mean, I’m not just going to ignore a game because it was his first start, especially when he played really well until the entire offense forgot how to touchdown. He looked incredible for the entire first half of that game, but Arkansas’ defense adjusted, and we did not. I certainly blame Luke and Longo and our defense more than Ta’amu pretty much across the board, but there is no denying the fact that we blew a 31-7 lead against Arkansas in large part because the offense stopped working. If we’d scored merely 10 points in the second half after exploding for 31 well before halftime, we’d have won, but we didn’t, and Arkansas kept its streak against us. I like Ta’amu a lot, but I wanted to point out that the offense did completely stall under him multiple times, and it stopped working the same way it did under Shea, which suggests it’s the play calling and intensity moreso than just quarterback play. I do think Ta’amu ran the offense better than Shea did
