It's not necessarily the policy, but his indignant response to Marcello's question. Marcello was doing his damn job. He's not Gene or Steve or any of those dipshits - he's an actual journalist. Getting all shitty because he asked a question and then expecting to control the narrative with him as if Marcello were some malleable Scout.com dipshit was where Merlins went wrong.
I agree that he didn't handle that situation in the most glamorous fashion but he was definitely doing that because it was the first practice of the year. It is obvious that he will not discuss injuries and I guarantee you that they won't ask him a question like that in that situation again this year. He could have been more classy with the response but I get it.

We need to get Godfrey in on one of his press conferences.

Why not? This sentence makes it seem like the Marcello is the one that is embarrassing to watch and is getting berated by other teams' fans.
There is a saying in Journalism. It's something along the lines of "don't piss off the guy who buys his ink by the barrel."

Actually, I bet he does. As a former journalist, I can tell you just because a subject has a policy of not answering a question, it does not supersede a journalist's professional obligation to ask.
Injuries are a legitimate question. He can ask, and Mullen can continue to say: "No comment on injuries." And both guys are doing their jobs. But in this case, Marcello was far more professional than Mullen. And Mullen throwing a temper tantrum should not change his policy of asking important questions every chance he gets.

For some reason people have some false definition of what a Journalist actually is especially sports fans. They think people are shitty journalists unless all they do is provide fluff pieces. It greatly humors me that both OM and MSU fans consider the CL to be a rag because they each think the newspaper is pro-other school.

Godfrey asked him about billboards at SEC Media Days.

Not my schooo!
But in all seriousness, I've noticed this as well. There are people who believe that the beat writers are there to "hold back" or "tear down" their schools. Like Huge Hamburglar is out there thinking of ways to destroy Ole Miss via his Clarion Ledger blog or something.
