I'm not a neat freak, but I generally try to keep things tidy. If I do make a mess, I try to clean it in a reasonable amount of time. I was a complete and total slob when I was a teenager. My room and car were absolute wrecks!

My slobbishness came & went in spurts when I was a teenager. My parents would get enough of my room, bathroom, & car being a complete mess, so I'd keep it spotless for a couple of months, then within a week, it was awful again. Vicious cycle.
quote:

Hubs (whom I love dearly), on the other hand, will leave dirty dishes in the sink (without checking to see if there's room in the dishwasher) and multiple pairs of shoes in the living room.

The kitchen thing used to really bother me when I was married, just because I was really particular about it, & the ex did things like that on purpose to annoy me. It was just very assholish & juvenile. Had he done it because he wasn't thinking or just being forgetful, it probably wouldn't have bothered me. Everything like that he did was out of spite, though, so probably a good thing he didn't leave his shoes in the living room - they might've ended up being thrown across the room at him.

My biggest gripe, however, is that he's basically turned our entire guest bedroom into his closet. There are dirty clothes on the floor and the bed. There are piles of clean clothes stacked everywhere. He has 2 closets and 2 dressers and still can't manage to keep his clothes put away.

That's amazing because mine used to do pretty much the same thing with his clothes. I used to spend half a day just putting all of his crap away that was in the guest bdrm, trying to get it ready when relatives or friends would come to visit. We had a huge walk through master closet in that house & he used the guest bdrm as his closet. Glad I'm not dealing with that anymore. Now, I get to use the guest bdrm as a storage room for crafts & Christmas decorations.

I'm a buyer & decorator for local antique dealers as well as some private clients. I also work part time as a buyer & decorator of Christmas inventory for my old boss whom I worked for full time for years. I'm working on the stores' inventory right now. Why do you ask? ... Sometimes I get the feeling you think you know me? But I'm pretty sure you don't.

What do you do? Don't you video Arkansas baseball games? Or is it all sports? You don't work for the university though, do you? For a Fayetteville tv station? Or internet sports?

This I call utter bullshite on. Seriously. ... There is a reason the "beauty" industry makes gazillions. Everything from traditional cosmetics to skin care to hair care to toe/fingernails to teeth to anti-aging products to shaving/waxing/bleaching/laser hair removal products to the thousands of oral vitamins & supplements for every external & internal part of the female body are purchased by millions of girls & women, daily, because females are under tremendous pressure to be as attractive as possible

It's because y'all are insecure about your looks and put pressure on yourselves. Your average everyday man isn't pressuring you to cake on a shitload of makeup and products. Sure we like you to put on a little bit when going out in public to look nice, but most of that is y'all buying into the marketing that the companies of those products do, which the marketing is done in a way to put pressure on you.

And you sound just like my GF when talking about other girls

She will see a random chick that she doesn't even know and first thing out of her mouth is "that bitch is so fake". Me "how do you know?" Her: "look at her, you can look and tell". Me: She looks normal? Her: Ugh, well I'm prettier than her!

It's like she just has to point that out, and judge someone that she doesn't even know. And God forbid she try to make a friend with another girl..she has her couple of close friends and that's it. She won't try to make anymore or converse with other girls..just ignores them. It's weird to me because I try to get along with any guy I meet and make new friends all the time.

Maybe when I was younger, a lot younger, I was insecure about my looks, which I think is normal for females in their teens & 20s. But honestly, I'm old, and the older you get, the less all that matters until you hit 40. Then the emphasis isn't on buying all the make-up, it's buying the anti-aging crap that costs a frickin fortune. And I was in hs & college in the late 80s & 90s, so yeah, I did my fair share of caking on make-up, getting spiral perms, and teasing & spraying the shite out of my hair, but truly, it was definitely mostly for male attention, not gonna lie. ... Now, unless I'm going to work or church, or on a date, I don't wear make-up & my hair is in a ponytail a lot, and I wear as little make-up as I can get away with. I hate doing it & don't care who sees me without it - male or female. I'm all about the "no more wrinkles" products. I'm about to start sleeping in avacado facial masks & "batgirl" eye masks for eye puffiness & dark circles. The heavy make-up & big hair days are over for me, thank God.

Oh Lawd!! No, I don't compare myself to anyone else, & really never did when I was younger. Out of all of my friends, past & present, I'm the least superficial of the bunch. I've always tried to make the best of my looks; do the best with what I've got, so to speak, but I've never been envious or jealous of anyone else's looks; if anything I appreciate pretty females. Hell, I like to see a good looking woman, too. That's a good thing, considering my best friend from hs was Miss Arkansas USA - she was/is gorgeous, with the best body of any hs/college chick ever in the history of the world. I wish I could post a pic of her in her bikini photograph for the Miss USA pageant. Truly incredible. I was extremely happy for & proud of her, even though I hate pageants. Those bitches are brutal!!! Lol ... But there's a difference in attractive or pretty females & materialistic, superficial, excessively fake, high maintenance ones like "Becca" in my story. Those are ones I don't like to be around too much either, so I know what your gf means.

Well, I'll admit, I have a bad habit of judging females dressed super trashy, like they should be at a biker bar instead of their kid's baseball game, wearing too much make-up, with tats showing, & excessively dyed hair. But other than that, I really don't pay too much attention unless a woman just really stands out bc of how she looks. Like I said, I'm older, so a lot of that isn't so important to me, and I don't hold it against any female because they're pretty - that's silly to me. I do appreciate pretty females, particularly close to my age. Anyone can be pretty in their 20s; it's admirable for one to be really good-looking at 40 & up. Haha ... And idk about the not making new friends thing. As much as I've moved around & lived in different places, I'm glad that's never been a problem. I enjoy meeting new people though. As far as really close girlfriends, I have only a few that I consider close, but many who are more casual friends. And just now looking at my short list of close ones, it's funny how diverse that list is. ... Your gf is still probably very young & she'll mature out of a lot of that. She could also be very shy around other females.

And yes, looks do matter. I once saw a chick for while who was absolutely killer in the sack and had a body to die for. She had awesome hair (thick, long, curly, and red) but was just so-so in the face. I could never picture being more than what we were - an occasional lay. That is not shallow, just being honest . . . I think.

I appreciate your honesty. ... And yes, that's what I thought. I don't think it's shallow; everyone enjoys "pretty things," but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, thank goodness, because it would be pretty boring if everyone considered the same looks as attractive. I also think personality can make or break someone's attractiveness. Bitchy girls or douchey guys who might be considered gorgeous, physically, by all standards, become totally unattractive to me.

I drive the boyfriend crazy not being a slob. I think he thinks that I love The Container Store more than him.

I have containers for everything, hampers in the bathroom and closet, the fridge arranged by category, and clothing color coded.

Plus I rarely wear makeup, so what I do wear is in makeup bags, neatly tucked away in a drawer that is specifically for said bags.

I've been wanting to go to this store, but I don't think there is one in BR - at least I haven't heard about or seen it. We just now got a Costco, so it'll probably be a while before we get one. I bet Little Rock has one, though. I'll check on it next time I go up there. ... I actually love the container sections of home improvement stores, Target, Walmart, etc. I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys these. ... Standing there staring at all of those containers in every size, shape, & color, thinking of all the possibilities of their uses & of becoming so organized is a lot of fun to me for some strange reason.

I adore hampers!!! I have some beautiful ones I ordered a couple of years ago from a home design magazine that are so cool - too pretty to be stuck in the utility room, really. ... I need to get some small containers for my fridge; haven't thought about that, but it's a good idea - like having more drawers. You can put much more stuff in them, for sure. My fridge isn't the biggest either since I fricked up & got a side-by-side instead of cafe style when I got a new one recently. Some small containers to fit in it would definitely create more space.

I don't either, yet have a ton of it since I never seem to throw any out & still buy a lipstick or eye shadow or something every time I pass by a cosmetics counter or section of a department store. Ridiculous. ... Now, my big thing is skin care & anti-aging items. I can't go into Walgreens without getting some new great item that's going to make me look 25 again. ... There's something new that's just been put on the market every time I go in there, and it's all so confusing, so I end up buying too damn much. I've got a decent amount of storage in my bathroom/dressing area, but if I used it all for skin care crap, I wouldn't have room for anything else. I think I might look for something at the container place that I can keep all of that organized in my closet - like some type of small storage system with shelves & pull-out baskets or mini containers that slide out, maybe with labels on the front of each basket? That way, I could keep the products loose in the baskets, but organized into categories.

I know that I have got to get back to being more organized & "together." Since my last move, I've been just randomly putting things in places with zero reason, & it's awful. I can't find things that I've "put away" because there's no system. When there's no rhyme or reason as to where I keep things, I can never remember where I put them. It's truly driving me crazy & just keeps snowballing. One of my new year's goals (not resolution) is to go through every room, closet, pantry, garage, & attic & collect items I haven't used or worn in a year, have a massive garage sale & donate the rest, then get as organized as possible with a place for everything, and keep it that way. Life was so much simpler when I lived like that. I truly believe that de-cluttering, streamlining, & organizing the material crap in my life greatly reduces the amount of clutter & disorganization in my mind. ... Maybe a trip to The Container Store will be the motivation I need to get it done.

There's one about fifteen minutes from me. Up in Sandy Springs. It's a bad thing. Before we moved to Decatur I was within walking distance of Ikea though. That's worse. I have to be really fricking motivated to go anywhere in Atlanta traffic.

Uuuugh. Our closet is far too small right now, even though it's a walk in. The boyfriend has more shite than I do. He has about eight suits and their accessories that take up most of the space. The closet is the one area that I hate to deal with.

The Container Store has everything that you could ever need though.

They contain the mess. Except for when you have hampers in the bathrooms and closets and your guy takes his clothing off right by the bed and leaves it there... where there is no hamper.

Oh Em Gee. Do you leave them inside out? That drives me insane to the point that after I wash them... well, I give them to him to turn back the right way and put together.

He hates it. I think it's funny.

Curiously, no I always slide 'em off so they stay right-side out.

Well, I usually fold laundry, and Aggiebelle is bad about leaving her socks inside out Hers are usually either the tiny ankle socks, which are no big deal, or the ABU boot socks, in which case it's actually easier to tell which pairs go together if they're inside out.

Weird.
