quote:No. That was Dusty's, a pretty sweet oyster bar. It burned down like 10 years ago, they rebuilt it, and now it only vaguely resembles a boat.
Is that the one shaped like an ark?

Dothan: The Circle City
Let's just cut the bullshite and nicknamed it the most generically nicknamed city in America.

I always felt the Chamber of Commerce should have played up the condom angle. Hell, this city used to really produce the rubbers

I miss fresh oysters.
I used to eat so many of those things on a cracker with some hot sauce that I could I could crap through a screen door at twenty paces the next morning.

Yeah being near Apalachicola is definitely one of the biggest advantages. I've had oysters probably 5 times in the last month.

Had some at Hunt's today, damn fine as always.

Dothan in terms of restaurants is like Tuscaloosa, and the circle is analogous to McFarland.
What I mean by those comparisons is: If you stay on those main roads, you think there's nothing but fast food and shitty chains in the city. But if you do some exploring or know where to go, there are some damn fine local places to eat.

Billy's and J. Michaels are great places to gey oysters in PCB. I am going for a week in March. I just like going to all my favorite spots and eating fresh seafood.
Hunt's used to have a deal where you could buy a 60 lb bag of oysters, a box of Saltines, and a case of beer for one price. We used to get it during football season and set the tv up on the deck. Shuck, eat, drink, and watch football. Those were good times.

Yeah. I have become seriously addicted to Taj, can't wait until they move because they will be less than 2 minutes from my house

One thing Dothan is missing is a good bbq joint. The BBQ Shack is pretty good, but that is really about it.

I don't know if they still have that deal, but we used to do it too. Only bad part is I love having one of their chili dogs with oysters, and I have never been able to make their chili at home.

BBQ shack is good, but A) they don't serve beer which is an affront to all that is holy and B) they close too early imho.
I keep hearing we are getting a Jim & Nick's, we shall see.

Where is that? In town?
ETA - 231 BBQ used to be good, last time I went not so much

Since you come to Tuscaloosa every weekend, you should share the wealth.

Yeah, took my kids once. The food is "mehh" but the prices are low, and they give you a ton of food.

Agreed. People hyped it up too much. It was good, not great. Haven't been back

Typical Dothan restaurant opening....lines out the door for 2 months, people rave about it and when I finally go it's just ok. Hell, all you need to do is open some kind of buffet in this town, like Ichiban or Golden Corral, and you will make a killing.
