To get away from people, primarily. I think the first instinct and action is to secure you and your family. The best way to do that is either in numbers or completely alone. After a period, when working in numbers, if food and water run out, there will be some upheaval of even the small social construct formed after the disaster. I'd rather avoid that. My largest concern is that with a new child, my wife might need a community to help her.

Secondarily, it would be for food. When the food in town runs out, there is food in the woods and water. Others may get to it first, though, which is my greatest concern, especially living in a rural state.

In this day and age, all it would take is a second great depression and it's on.

IF we have a civil war, I'm going to do another General Sherman march to the sea, this time in Los Angeles.

Used to blow time in the Army by playing what if and would you rather games. Had a fun one; What would you do if?...

Tomorrow you woke up and the power was off. You pick up your phone and it's dead. Every battery powered device in your home is dead. You go outside and hear no cars, machinery, planes over head, nothing, just birds. You go to your car and it won't turn over.

You visit your neighbors and it's the same deal, nobody has any idea what happened.

What do you do now?

Would you come in to work?

What if this lasted for days? Weeks? Months?

It depends, is it just electrical sources that have stopped working or is it most chemical sources as well? In other words will bullets still fire?

Regardless I would get out of town with as much as I could as fast as I can and head for a rural setting. Without transportation, assuming this lasts for years or months, people will quickly begin to starve. Starving people are unpleasant people to have as neighbors.

In Arkansas there would be a lot of folks also heading for the hills so to speak. The disadvantage of living in Sportsman's state. Watch the deer population crash and burn within a year. Once the deer and other game begin to vanish things will get even more unpleasant.

Pro tip: Humans carry a ton of diseases so make sure to cook your Long Pig until its well done.

If it lasts more then a year or two then we are looking at around a 75% (probably higher in Europe and Japan) die off of the human race in industrialized countries and close to that in non-industrialized countries.

Then we will eventually bounce back, perhaps not to pre-disaster levels unless the power comes back on, since humanity has done just fine without electricity for two hundred thousand years. Of course no power means little to no medication so expect to live about half as long as you used to and plan on having as many children as you possibly can since 3 out of 5 of them will probably die before their tenth birthday. Children are your retirement policy in a non-industrial society.

I have worked diligently to educate myself on all of the types of indigenous plants I can. And I have also endeavored to learn as much as I can about essential oils and alternative forms of health. Just in case.

By and large, I think a majority of Americans are too lazy and pussified to have a Civil War anytime soon.

Now we need to do the other what if scenario.

What if we had an honest to God Zombie Apocalypse? I'm talking 95% of the population becomes (fast walking) zombies. Not slow and shambling, but fast and hungry.

What is the survival strategy when most of humanity wants to eat you?

Depends on if the virus has stricken the people dumb as well as turning them into cannibals. If they're clever? You just get way the hell out of Dodge. Just hide it out.

Actually, in either case that's what you do.

We might, if liberals continue to try to tax us to prosperity and take away the rights of law abiding citizens. Also, giving our money away to people who do nothing to benefit our society.

As Monty Python very wisely said... "When danger reared it's ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled."

Tax rates are about the lowest they've been in modern history.

Both sides are guilty of this.

I agree we need to curb corporate welfare.

I would either try to find a gun to shoot myself (I don't own or want to own a gun) or find something really tall to jump off.

Some say the second civil war was triggered on January 20th 2019 when Louisiana began drafting articles of succession from the oppressive nation and its football referees.

Can't see it happening within 20 years, after that, who knows.

I guess you have to begin with what would start one.... maybe the federal gov. taking away 401ks, savings, land etc? Taking away guns? '

Redistribution of wealth to the democrats....sound not possible?.....that was the exact reason for ObamaCare.

Arksulli, hit it pretty close. If the grid goes down, about 80 percent of the worlds population will be gone within a year or so. It’s not if, it’s when. The very young and very old along with people on life saving medication will die first. The the city dwellers will start killing each other off for food, water and big screen TVs. Never mind there’s no power. The 20 percent that make it will be the folks that know how to make things and live off the land or preppers like myself. I have enough supplies to last 4 people about 2 years. Food, water and purification equipment, meds, barder supplies. IE, cigs, booze, gold, silver etc. old 1970s truck. Guns and more guns. Lots of ammo. Will there be a civil war ? I’ve prepared sense Obama was in his third year in office. I’ve never seen the country more devided.
In the end, people will come together. AND THEN EAT EACH OTHER.

Someone will figure out you have that shite, then some National Guard unit will send a stream of .50 from an APC into your compound and take what you have. Your little pew pews will be of no consequence.

Hoarding will be a capital crime. Whoever controls the fuel reserves will control society. Nuclear technicians would rule as gods.
