Nah, I've been casually following along.

Racism is just as bad in the north and the west coast as it is in the south. Obesity is also a problem for the whole United States but the cause in the south would probably be all the delicious fast food.

I know of a few damn ole yankee cities that have fewer minorities than I know on a first name basis.

Why are so many Southerners so stuck in their ways?
Not going to try and analyze the sociology of the question posed, but I will say that having lived in the Midwest, West Coast and South, I will never leave the South unless I'm kicked out. I think the racism is overplayed for the most part, as is religion (sure most are quite religious, but it never feels overbearing in my experience). If I didn't have the metabolism I do, I'd be obese as frick with the food down here, so I get that one. I resent the "armpit of America" quip tho, the south still has too much to offer for that to be a valid assessment.

I would give Armpit of America label to Detroit.

I'm just messin around. I like OP, but he's off here. Southerners are no more racist than anyone else, we're just louder about it.
And no, the armpit of America is definitely Galax, Virginia.

Between racism, skewed religious views and obesity, this part of the country has become the armpit of America.
