If you're staying near East Chase, only go downtown to eat. Do not drink downtown. You will go to jail and will not be able to pass go and collect $200

Hang out at the Montgomery Mall, probably the safest place in town.

That place has been closes for a decade. Probably a hobo haven nowadays

It hasn't be that long, I bought a Canada baseball jersey and a Letterman jacket for like 8 bucks at the sweat shop supplied store like 6-7 years ago
Seriously, that stuff was so insanely cheap not to be. Other than that, the only stores I recall open were a Church's, a Rims Store, a kiosk selling bling and grills, and a NASCAR collectible store.

Eh, I have gotten drunk downtown a hundred times, and have never gotten messed with.

If you are by Eastchase, I'd recommend the Tipping Point. The Cloverdale area has some good stuff (Tomatinos, 1048, Leroy). If you are a night owl, go to Sous La Terre. Doesn't open til after midnight. Music will start around 1-2 AM.
Forgot about the new Irish Bred Pub downtown. Recently opened. Haven't been there, so no idea how it is.

Plans are in the works to put a police and fire station in Montgomery Mall. They also plan to put some stores in the mall too. As far as the comments about being sure not to get shot, is a load of bullcrap. Montgomery is much safer than Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

It's easy to stay safe as long as you don't go to the bad parts of town.

I'm referring to the driving back to East Chase from downtown part

There was an okay brew pub down by the baseball park. Don't know if it's still open. There was a good dive titty bar in Prattville, but the authorities shut it down, which really was a shame.
Other than that, the best thing to do in Montgomery is leave before you get shot, robbed, or both. I'm not kidding. That town sucks donkey balls.
ETA: Almost forgot, there's this.

It shut down for a while but recently reopened. It's now called the Railyard Brewing Company. It's basically in the same building.

This is getting overblown. Yes, Montgomery has a lot of crime, but most of it takes places in bad areas of town, just like most other cities. Avoid those places(which is very easy to do), and you will be fine.

I was exaggerating, except about the mall part. I don't go anywhere in Montgomery anymore unless it is absolutely necessary.

Back in the 90s, though, it was pretty bad. Knew a guy who taught at a school there then and said that he saw cops chasing armed thugs through the corridors on more than one occasion. The town looks depressing, though, especially the southside loop. The new stuff on the east side, along Taylor Road, is decent looking.
My wife's old boss was from Montgomery and he used to get so pissed at people from Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Huntsville dogging Montgomery. So of course, I said something bad about Montgomery to him every chance I got.

ETA: What about the Prattville titty bar? Single moms gotta work.
