What do you think is the perfect government?

Had a US History class a few semesters back with a teacher who was discussing democracy in class one day. He said that you could look back at other democracy's in history and see how they all ultimately self destructed. And that he could tell from looking at history that America was on the downhill side of our current democratic government.
So I asked him if democracy will inevitably fail, what did he think was the ideal government? To which he said of the governments man has come up with, that democracy is the best. It's just hard to believe that in the entire history of humanity, we haven't been able to come up with a better government that won't self destruct. But I guess I underestimate how humans can undermine the best of intentions...

The one where I'm in charge of everyone.
I also think I should get everyone's money and I'll redistribute it fairly.

A government that keeps their god damned noses out of the affairs of other countries and doesn't violate the Constitution at every chance they get? Yeah, that'd be ideal.

The constitution was written several years ago before airplanes and iPhones.
It's about time for a new one.

Some people in this country have a little trouble with letting go of the past.

Can you imagine the shitshow if we tried to write a new constitution though?

I'd just be like "oops we lost the constitution"
Or
"We've recently used some fancy new science that discovered that written in invisible ink was 'lol jk' across the page."
Or
"Offer expires in 100 years"

You've done your best when people can't tell you've done anything at all.
The best government is the government that really doesn't have to do any governing.
Enforce contracts, have a judicial system to settle disputes, enforce contracts, combat fraud, and settle torts.
Build large infrastructure projects.
Provide for a national defense.
Set the rules for immigration and voting for national representatives.
Settle disputes between states and regulate commerce between states.
Protect free trade between states and between the country and all nations.
Protect private property rights so that people can be secure in their ability to profit from their enterprises.
Not much else is really needed.
With a strong legal system enforcing contracts and punishing fraud, the market will due much of the rest of the governing for us.

This is true. But when most people make this statement they are thinking of physical involvement with other countries.
Unfortunately for the U.S. it goes much deeper. We have made our currency the world reserve, we make most oil bearing countries sell their oil in dollars, creating a false economy based on the petro dollar. When they deviate from this we attack (Operation Iraqi Freedom). We have created a monster that relies on physical intimidation and strength to keep other countries adhering to our mandate. If oil countries started selling in another currency, our dollar would collapse.
