It is one reason why I like Mellencamp's Scarecrow album. He and his band learned to play a bunch of 50s rock songs before doin it and most of it is about muh beloved home state, minutes to memories is probably my favorite song off that album and it was not a single. His stuff after that got a little too out there for me, aside from the occasional decent tune

Music enjoyment is way too subjective to put a definite answer to these type of things. Something I like may suck to someone else and vice versa.
Personally I like Van Halen but for me Led Zeppelin stands alone in a class by themselves but not everyone is going to feel that way. And that's fine

Objectively, Van Halen and similar 80s hair metal bands are soulless grifters who's music was devoid of any kind of meaning or emotion
In layman's terms, despite a lot of these guys having some real talent with their instruments/ voices, Van Halen and their ilk suck A.S.S.
