What made you decide it was all bullshite?

Reading the bible and the things god has ordered to be done, seeing the arbitrary rules that make no sense, and just generally not seeing anything to really take away from the book that is all that special.

Fair enough. We all have to choose for ourselves. I was just curious.

Some of my point there relates to the Jonah story most were taught as a child were god gets Jonah's arse eaten by a fish because he won't follow gods plan. The whole story is focused on god making someone do what he wants he when they don't want to. Why didn't he have a whale eat hitler?

yea i'm usually not a militant atheist or anything. I think acting like you know for sure is pointless we're all just guessing from what i've seen.

You've kind of just got to try and do what is right and if there is a fair and just god you'll be fine. If god isn't fair and just did you really want to worship him anyways.

I wasn't around back then, and I'm not God. I cannot answer that, as I did not write that.

eta- my purpose in this thread was just to debate the idea of having faith in ET and faith in God, and how both are seen and viewed by folks.

There have been times when I wanted to leave it all behind but there have also been times when I believe God saved my life. Sure, it could be that I'm underestimating my own humanity and power within but I choose to believe in God. If I get to the end and it was all bullshite, I will have still lived my life in a way that honored my family and those around me.

Bible-thumpers and most religious folks in the the South can kiss my arse though. There are so many obviously wretched views of God (Westboro, KKK, etc.) and it's easy to tell when they're full of shite and when there just might be something more.

Exactly. If it has the capacity to get here and visit us then it will be able to do whatever it wants to do. If and when some type of being makes landfall we better hope it is peaceful. If its not there will be nothing we can do about it.

Jumping in late, but all I can say is that the universe, its entirety, and everything around you didn't happen by chance. There is no way that everything that we see, the force of gravity, the stars, planets, and space itself came from absolutely nothing. I do believe that there is some type of creator of it all, but I don't believe it's what the bible and other religions make it out to be.

It was proved possible according to the our scientific laws. Which doesn't disprove god but it proves it is possible. Who knows, in the end probably won't make a shite if there is or isn't a god.

What amazes me, is that belief in alien life, basically comes down to having faith that there is that existence. And a lot, not all, of the same people that vehemently believe that, are quick to mock and say there is no God because that requires only faith in his existence.

Nice parallel. Except no.

And, I believe in god. He's called energy.

I don't see a problem with that analogy.

I'd say there's a bit of a difference though. Ones the end-all be-all in Christianity(everything written in stone, all rules and philosophies known, etc), while aliens are something we know nothing about definitively. We just continue to learn through basic knowledge of ourselves/planet/solar system and personal experiences.

One is completely faith based, while the other is knowledge based.

I just don't see the distinction. I dont think magnitude of the conclusion makes a difference when both conclusions are based on best guess and not fact.

I'm not to sure, I think it morphed into a possibly that there are aliens vs a possibility that a single all powerful god exists

Also debated was wether or not the all powerful god I he exists would in fact be an alien

This planet is gonna be useless in 50,000 years. We're practicing a burn rate of minerals, materials, and resources that Earth can never replenish.

but IDGAF I've got maybe 30 more left in me, 3-4 if I'm lucky.

On Thursday night local time (Friday morning, May 10, 2013 at about 01:00 UTC), the Cygnus dummy payload dropped down to experience re-entry. As it slammed through the atmosphere at several thousand kilometers per hour, the payload simulator compressed the air in front of it, heating it up. The pressure and heat disintegrated the structure, and it fell apart, blazing across the sky ( as seen in the video above).

Ah, the 'Cygnus dummy payload' explanation. HOW CONVENIENT!!!
