Was never allergic to it until around 40 years old. Now, I'm pretty sensitive to it. I've used a poison ivy soap I picked up at Tractor Supply after I've been in the woods and think I may have gotten into it. It seems to work pretty well.

If it gets really bad, Clorox will take care of it instantly. Dip cotton swaps in clorox and dab onto poison ivy sores. It'll burn like a mutherfricker, but by the next morning it'll be dry.
I'm not joking about this. My grandmother did the clorox treatment to me when I had a terrible outbreak around the age of 15. It worked.
However, before the treatment I was a handsome black male. Afterward, I was a white teenage boy.

I cleared out the woods behind my house last week and apparently got some poison ivy. I'm putting cortizone on it and icing it but those only provide relief for so long. Anybody got any better options?
Take it from a guy who has had it all his life. Go to your doctor and get the steroid shot. It will be under control in hours. The pills work, such as a medrol dose pack, but it will take days
None of the home remedies will do anything but piss you off
Go to the doctor immediately
Be done with it

I went the other way: was super allergic as a kid and broke out into rashes that made me want to die.
But after about 18 or so I've only broken out in very small areas or not at all, and I've been in it plenty.
When I was a kid, I would take a hot shower because it felt like the relief of scratching it without actually scratching, then switch it to ice cold to numb the areas afterwards. It didn't speed healing, but it helped with relief.
The only thing that healed it for me was time.

I'm super allergic to it which really sucks but what I do (this may have been discussed) is while I'm in the shower rinse it with the hottest water you can stand and the skin will release all the histamine (I believe this is what happens) which will provide relieve from the itching for 4 or 5 hours. I've heard that this does cause it to spread but idk if that's true and usually i get it so bad it doesn't even matter if it does spread at that point
Another thing you can do is take a Clorox bath it helps dry it out.
Here's a pic from the last time I got it, warning it's a little gross

As soon as I realize I have it, I scrub the area with clorox. The rash dries up in a few hours.

The hot shower thing works, but its releasing the poison ivy oil not histamine.
Walgreens sells a soap called "Tecnu" that works great, if going to the doctor for the steroid isn't an option.

Poison ivy is just like jelly fish, piss on it. That's what we call in the bizz self medicating.

I get it really bad and often but I have never seen poison ivy look anything like that. I usually just try to wait it out. I'll take cold showers. I don't see how hot showers work. If it is really bad I'll get a steroid shot and take some allergy medicine, but it still takes a week or so to go away

Yeah I'm pretty allergic to it, though its been a while since I had it. The last time I did I believe the dr prescribed to me a topical steroid called elocon (mometasone) that cleared it up quickly. It was the alcohol based lotion not the cream. Good luck not fun.

Just take some Benadryl and use some self control and don't scratch it. I am highly allergic to it. Benadryl works great.

Well that actually could've been poison oak but to me there's not really a big difference I've tried the dr prescribed steroid before and it didn't really work. Hot water may spread it but it sure as hell relieves the itching
