I've never been to or even heard of New Bern.

Move there.

Write a blog about your experiences so the next time this question is asked, we will have an answer.

Well, I've never been there, but I just wanna know why you're moving from Chicago to never-heard-of-it.

Actually I just googled it and I wanna move there too.

Reason 1 property taxes
Reason 2 weather
Reason 3 my money goes WAY farther down south. (Sq. Ft.)

Dude the weather here sucks. I hate it. It is really inconsistent.

This is a typical North Carolina week:

Monday: 70 degrees
Tuesday: 25 degress
Wednesday: 40 degrees
Thursday: 60 Degrees
Friday: 30 degrees
Allergies: DESTROYED.

Seriously, frick the weather here.

Those are good reasons. Plus, it's coastal. I would club a kitten to live near the beach.

My college room mates lives in Raleigh and loves it. He also says Wilmington, NC is really cool. Like a mini Charleston or Savannah. Only around 100k people. He says NC is great mix of Southern life and Northern life. He really enjoys it. Two hours to the beach, or two hours to the mountains.

Not a big place by any means. Near the coast, could be classified a sportsman's paradise if you are in to that. Pepsi founded there, big negative I believe Grady White is there too.

Not SEC country, they do not do football well here at all.

That sumbitch must drive 1 fiddy... it's an easy 3.5-4 hours, depending on traffic from Raleigh, to the mountains of NC...

New Bern is a small town in the middle of no where. You will have to root for East Carolina.
not far from Morehead City and the coast, though.

And if you are one of those in the upper socioeconomic classes, you can send your kids to Camp Seagull or Camp Seafarer for the summer.

NC is not bad. My fathers family is from the Plymouth area (by the outer banks) It is rich in history(if your into that). like someone else said, offers both coastal and mountainous areas. You may or may not be bored as all get out moving from the city to the country, but if you are looking to slow down life and smell the flowers then its a good move for you. Basketball rules the state as it is the heart of the a she she.
