The same reason we don't produce the best baseball players anymore: All the best athletes are playing football and basketball.

Until you get some of those elite football and basketball players kicking a soccer ball around from an early age we wont have a chance against soccer only countries.

Soccer is thought of as a game for rich white kids to play while their parents socialize on Saturday morning in this country.

We can field a great soccer team without the best athletes. It's all in the development of players. We are getting better, but our players aren't getting the same training that other countries are getting at an early age. It's easier to be a football/basketball player than it is to be a soccer player.

Agree somewhat.

This is assuredly true, though.

If the freak athletes that this country produces regularly for football/basketball were hitting the pitch with the same comprehensive development for soccer as their foreign counterparts, we'd be a futbol powerhouse already.
