Muscle Shoals would've developed much more if the gov't hadn't interfere with Henry Ford's plans

Thank God they did. Detroit is a schit hole.

The Florence/Muscle Shoals area is perfect the way it is. Not too small but not too large. Great history and music culture, good restaurants, a revitalized downtown in Florence, UNA has one of the prettiest campuses around with 2 live lions housed smack in the middle... awesome. Great fishing, golf, outdoor activities and river access on Pickwick, Wilson and Wheeler lakes on the Tennessee. Good mix of people all around.

Of course I'm biased, but I have lived in 2 different countries and in 10 different states all over the US from rural to suburban to major urban centers.

Florence/Shoals and Madison/Huntsville are solid places to live. Lots of schitholes around and between but they are not too bad.

You live in fricking Benton and you say this? Let me guess, you've never been outside of Caddo\Bossier Parish.

Detroit became a h3llhole b/c of its union culture and corrupt politicians---one of whom was 'bama native Coleman Young.

NASA and the military have brought in some good money and good people.

This is a major change. There has always been a significant DoD contractor and military science, engineering and development center in Madison/Hunstville. But, they have moved a 4 star command HQs to redstone responsible for all of the Army materiel development and the Army Acquisitions Corps school is based out of there as well. With defense spending on modernization and the new Big 6 on an upswing, it is certainly a growth market.

union culture and corrupt politicians-
that same culture was/is just as pervasive in the South, so no surprise there. It would have been more of the same. Look at TVA and Reynolds for example in the Shoals area alone.

Six continents at last count. Probably as many states as you've watched on Arial America.

I’d throw Guntersville in with the Huntsville/Madison area with how much expansion is heading south into Hampton Cove and Owens Cross Roads. Guntersville is just a rock throw away and is an absolutely gorgeous area. 25 minutes from my back door, and thinking of getting a lake house down there.

The Huntsville area is one of the few I'd go to and not miss NW Arkansas that badly. It is a gorgeous part of the country and the economy is doing great there. You can live in a lot worse places then that section of Alabama.

The south doesn't have a strong union culture, not one comparable to say, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Lake Guntersville is a beautiful area but still a bit overpriced. Take a look at Smith Lake or Tim's Ford if your interested in lake property. I little further away but still an easy drive if your just buying a weekend place.

I'll give you that one. Everyone should know that Benton is in Bossier Parish....the garden spot of the ArkLaTex.
