May she rest in peace. Her voice will always be heard at my house. What an icon, and just a classy lady.

Much wealthier than Elvis.

Keep in mind Dolly died at almost twice the age Elvis died. Dolly was 80, Elvis was only 42 years old.

Amazing thing Elvis' estate thanks to his wife Priscilla, is worth so much and continued to make money after he died. Graceland is a shrine.

There have only been 5 women I have ever shed tears over. #1 was my Mother. #2 was my second wife. #3 was my grandmother. #4 was my first wife when she asked me for a divorce. #5? Dolly Parton. She was a angel from God in human form. Truly larger than life, and found out today that she donated half a billion dollars to her various charities and outreach programs. We didn’t deserve her. I know my Barbara is bugging Dolly up in Heaven right now and she just arrived today!

how does this compare to the passing of Elvis?

More people cared more deeply and emotionally about Elvis’ death

But Dolly’s death came at 80 years old

Elvis had an effect on women. It was electric, hair stands on end, when he entered a room. Only other man I know with this effect is Bill Clinton. While Dolly had a lovely disposition and a set of lungs that got mens attention, not the same level of raw magnetism.

Comparisons are always hard when ones dies young (like James Dean) or middle age (like Elvis) than one who dies older and outlives many of their peer group (something I understand quite well) and the younger folks are not aware. As a young man, I knew the music of my age, but also the music of my parents and grandparents. Sadly, that does not seem to be the case of the current younger generation who seemed to be bored after about 15 seconds and switch to something else.
