Currently living in Savannah area and I went through a divorce. Ex wife moved her and my son to Stringer, MS. My company is trying to get me closer. Thanks everyone for the info

Houma is a long way from Stringer, MS. And why Stringer, MS? I take it she must be from there. Otherwise no one would know that it existed.
Look for somewhere in Southeast MS or Southwest AL.
Side note: one of the hottest girls I ever met in college was from Houma, LA. Damn was she fine.

She has family there. The branch I will be running is located in Houma. The ex will have to meet me half way according to our parenting agreement.

Going from Savannah to Houma will be a big change. I actually think Houma is a nice little town though. You might gain some weight from the abundance of amazing food.

F - Food, fishing, football
H - hunting, heat, humidity, hurricanes
M - music, mosquitoes
I've never been to Savannah. but I can tell you Houma is very different. But friendly people in both places.
If you post this on the OT Lounge board you will get many more responses, but you won't know what to believe.

Yeah i figured I would ask here first. Originally from Mobile. I have only lived in the Savannah area for 2 years.

I live in Houma. Lived in New Orleans before that. Houma is laid back, not a lot of traffic and only an hour ride to New Orleans. Friendly people and good local food mixed in with some chain restaurants. Fishing is great fresh and saltwater.

You having lived in Savannah, likely wont mind the one way streets. When I visited friends there, I found Houma charming. I wish you the best of luck in your difficult situation. Stay strong.

It's a location on swamp people if that helps.

You would get a lot more responses on the OT, but a lot more useless responses as well.
Houma is an oil town, and oil went bust there almost 10 years ago. The prolonged economic depression has taken a big toll on the city. With that said, food is good, COL is low outside of car insurance (which will be at least double what you’re used to), New Orleans is close by for world class entertainment, fresh and saltwater fishing at your doorstep, and a great little college town in nearby Thibodaux filled with cute little brunette cajun girls who drink like fishes.
Granted, all of this is secondhand knowledge. I’ve lived in South Louisiana my whole life and never set foot in Houma. No reason to go there if not for work.

dang, sorry man
I've not been to Houma but I've been close. College town with Nichols State I think. Probably a diamond in the rough.
God bless
edit: nope, Nicholls State is in Thibodaux - anyway, same vicinity, I bet your kid will love weekends at your place

Sorry to hear about the divorce. I can only assume she's from Stringer... there doesn't seem to be a ton of reasons to move there to be honest.
Having lived throughout the South I've lived near Houma, though that was a long time ago, but never in it. It is a sportman's paradise as I recall. A lot of fishing and the like.
It is, however, legendary for once having been one of the roughest towns in the old Mid-South (New Orleans) wrestling territory. Fans attempted, on a weekly basis, to kill the wrestlers during events and many a story from an old timer involves kicking a fan in the balls down there. Jim Cornette has devoted many a segment on his podcasts to talking about how dangerous Houma was for wrestlers.
