I disagree about the debt. Two reasons:
1. We (Americans) are the ones who own most of the debt in our retirement accounts. If my 401k becomes worthless because we cant pay the debt, I'm gonna be a bit ptfo.
2. We are gonna to get a big tax hike in a few years to make up for the trillions the recent tax cut is adding to the debt. I already pay a frickton in taxes. I fully expect to be paying about 10k more in a few years to cover the recent corporate tax cuts which are permanent.
Anyway, no more hijack, carry on..

While we are on the subject of finances -
Do you think we need to change the tax code to try and capture more of revenue that certain citizens are not paying? I am talking about dual citizens with businesses based overseas, major drug dealers, etc. The only way I see that we could do this would be to only have a sales tax and nothing else. Make it very little $$ on milk and eggs, etc and then big $$ for luxury items.
I know it will never be voted into action, but would it work?
People get to keep all of their check but then pay when they buy.
Consumer based economy would be consumer based on its tax.

1. The debt would have to be asked for, if we said no what are they going to realistically do about it? China or anyone else does not want a war with the US and in the global markets they don’t want us failing. It’s like when you have a big time client that doesn’t pay the bill on time. You are shite out of luck if you can’t replace him, so you are stuck just asking for them to pay. If it did get called you are right in that it would be bad for 401ks but I just don’t see it as likely in a global economy and even if the economy was to deglobalize then it wouldn’t matter as long as we are the strongest. So as of now the debt isn’t a big deal, we have more domestic issues to solve.
2. The gov should learn to spend less, hell most taxation is theft. The federal gov is extremely bloated and it’s fricking retard and both the right and lefts fault it is in the shape it is in. The federal gov should have just a few key purposes, protect the country, protect rights not crush them. All the federal drug laws need to go away, federal income tax should be lowered even more as it greats more investment in jobs and overall more people to pay tax. States are free to tax as much or as little as you want since you can move state to state. The people in Cali don’t have the same needs as those of us in Georgia so we shouldn’t be subjected to their lunacy more than needed.
Also while ranting property tax and inheritance tax both should die in a fire. It’s my property I shouldn’t be taxed on it.
Also social security and Medicare should be optional.

I don’t think we need more revenue, we need term limits and better spending habits from Congress. I would be in favor of lower rates to increase investment and innovation. A national sales tax would indirectly effect the poor and middle class more than anyone unless states are forced to scale back their taxes.
I could see it working but it would be bad for the more luxury industries.
I don’t see major changes to the tax code, it’s hard to get everyone to agree and the cpa lobby is powerful.
I also like the post card tax people, the damn tax return is only really two pages as it is now, so you make it a post card and you just have more schedules to show proof of your numbers.

Edison didn't invent the light bulb. He took others unpatented ideas and filed the patent and improved them.

It was a good day. We swam for a bit in the neighborhood pool, then grilled chicken veggies, some melon for a salad and sword fish
